Not much a story when hunting a greenfield. Right place at the right time. Scouted a lot the past two days and found 3 different spots where the rut is still going on with fresh scrapes and running tracks. I normally don't hunt greenfields, but with the size tracks I seen while scouting this field I just had to hunt it. I heard him hitting some trees about 60 yards from the field at 4:20 and at 4:30 he stepped out at 65 yards. He was eat very little and was keeping his eyes on the logging road I walked in on like he has had his tail whooped or was just looking for some does. I'm 40 years old and have been bow hunting for 30 years and he had me nervous as hell, because he was looking back my way. I was just to high for him to see me. (22' high). I got to watch him for 10 minutes, just the right amount of time to settle my nerves. When he got 20 yards and broadsided he dropped his head to take a bite and I drew back and when I reached full draw I knew this buck was in trouble. I double lunged him and set back down and watched him run about 20 yards and the blood poor out as he stood still. I have killed some good deer, but this is my overall biggest to date. I get just as excited on a big full grown doe as I did him. If you don't get tore up bow hunting you need to find something else to do for a hobby or quit lying. Lol. Glad I could share this public land hunt with y'all. Last but not least thank goodness for the rain and the burn ban lifted, because smoke is the #1 cover scent you can use. One last thing he was cut up pretty good from getting his ass whooped, now I got to find the buck that whooped up on this one....,,,,,,,,,,
