Years ago I bought one of those orange camo insulated coverall outfits from Cabela's when we were dog hunting. It would literally hurt your eyes to wear the dang thing. You could see it for 2 or so miles across a clear cut.. A game warden said I would have to have an orange cap on also.

There is NO law or requirement to wear a cap. It says 144 square inches. NOT "144 square inches of a hat or cap on your head." So you could wear a jumpsuit, a hat, a hoodie or anything as long as it's 144 square inches.

actually Clem it says 144 sq inches or a orange cap, small logo permitted. Specifically says orange camo not legal.

and a cap ain't 144 sq inches.

144 square inches visible above the waist.

i personally think its a spupid law. Was there a time when folks were getting shot? and this was a way to reduce this? How come hunters are the only ones required to wear orange in the woods. I guess if I have a gun, I have to wear orange so i dont shoot myself. Every time you turn around LEO's are crying about officer safety, yet they dont wear hunters orange. Sure its a good idea, so are safety harness. I think if you get shot in the woods accidentally and dont have on orange its your own fault, but i shouldnt be forced to wear it.

Sounds like something the "Hey, let's FIX THIS!" WeLoveMoreGovernment crowd could key on during the next round of progressive updates to make sure everyone's hunting the way they want people to hunt.

As to the post about wearing an orange jumpsuit, I maintain that the GW had zero reason for telling him he must also have had an orange cap. If he was wearing a blaze orange jumpsuit or jacket "above the waist" then he easily had 144 sq inches visible and there was no need for a cap at all.

Has anyone ever, while hunting in any other state or watching any show on TV, seen a game warden wearing blaze orange?

Doesn't matter what y'all think about it. Won't happen. GWs, like other law enforcement, aren't bound by public wants or desires about their apparel and safety gear. Just a fact.

If'n I was a game warden, I'd wear hunter orange and camo with appropriate insignias on it.. That way the guy I was walking up on would think I was a tresspasser instead of the GW. Instead of running, he'd probably come look me up.

GWs ain't hunting and therefore do not fall under the provisions of this regulation, why is that so hard to understand?

Ya'll going to make it a law that everyone who enters into "woods" during gun deer season has to wear hunter orange??

I rarely ever wore orange while working because I dang sure didn't want the outlaws to see me coming. On occasion, like walking into a dog drive, I did wear it when checking hunters.

Game wardens wear seatbelts. If its really about safety, it only makes sense to wear orange too. Why disregard the safety of our law enforcement? We have the privledge of being protected by our fearless leaders in montgomery and they get left out!

Camo orange and orange isn't the same thing. If you have camo orange on you still got to wear the cap or vest or something. Thats just what it says.

If I choose to not wear camo, how critical are wardens on this issue?

Been sitting in my tripod and just got to thinking or should I say over thinking?

Nobody ever answered your original question. I would say if you(or any part of your body) is less than 12 feet high you are required to wear 144" of hunter orange. May be wrong but been wrong many a time!!!

If it were me I would just wear the vest if I didnt want to wear an orange hat. I doubt you would have a problem but you never know. That way you won't forget to put it on when you come down. I know I have forgotten to put my hat back on after shooting a deer and coming down from a stand.

They only wear seat belts when they are driving. If they are not driving they are not required. If a game warden is deer hunting he is required to wear orange. If he's not hunting, he's not required. If a farmer is farming, he's not required. If a farmer is deer hunting, he is required. It's that easy.

we understand it aint in the provision, but doesnt the game warden have as good of a chance of getting shot as the hunter. Hell I dont want the outlaws to see me coming either. On dog drives it just makes since, but on private land its a stupid law. It aint me with the gun that needs to worry about getting shot, its other folks in the woods that are at risk.
