Living in Florida, I do miss a good wood fire in the house. It ain't a vast difference in winters in North Alabama and Port Saint Joe, but the wind off the bay keeps us just warm enough to not need much of a heater. Maybe an average 7 degrees higher in the winter, roughly, just from looking at my boat logbooks.
Actually, it's a little cooler in the summer on the coast here due to the stirring bay breeze, as opposed to the cow-pasture stillness and heat from the inland on my small farm up there. Plus, our bay produces SOME rain EVERY day SOMEWHERE on the roughly 7 miles X 15 miles it takes up. It makes its own weather pattern for some dang reason. That's a little rough on my arthritis when the barometer moves quickly.
