I live in the city, and there are lots of oak trees near my apartment. I could probably pick up 50lbs of white oak acorns. Can I pick them up, put them out, and hunt over them? I figure that the answer is no, but it can't hurt to ask.

In an oak bottom no, but it might stick out a little in the middle of a good plot lol.

I wouldn't spread red oak acorns under a white oak tree. that may draw the ire of mr green jeans.

By law, no. But if you scattered them in a 50x50 area around 3-4 white oak trees and climbed up and hunted them, they'd have one heck of a time making a case against you.

It would be legal to hunt over them but I've been doing an experiment in my back yard. I raked up 3 wheel barrel loads of white oak acorns and put next to a corn pile and peanut butter rice brand to see what the deer prefer. I have 5 or 6 does and a 4 point that show up every night. The deer in my neck of the woods prefer the corn wayyyy more than the acorns or rice brand.

Night time is natural too. But they keep telling me I can't use that to hunt either.

I don't see how it would ever be noticed in the hardwoods unless they were in one big pile. Or if you dumped them out in a pine thicket.

Of course it isn't legal. If I grew my own corn, bagged it up, poured it in a pile and hunted over it, I am hunting illegally. However if I hunt over the corn I planted than I'm legal. Same thing for acorns.

Yep, a few years ago I was 100% against hunting over bait. Now I just wish the state would quit passing these vague/stupid "supplemental feeding" rules and just make it legal.
