Under a bridge? Currently, I tie a bottle to my rope and sling it over a beam. Leaves a lot to be disired. Saw a guy once with long handled C clamps. Not sure where he found them or how he made them. Any advice?

I've seen guys use two PCV pipes with rope pulled thru them with a small loop ate one end of both. They then ran a separate rope or bungee cord around the columns, then thru the loop. The other end of the rope then is tied to a cleat. , front and rear. The poles limit the boat from being able to get closer to the column than the pole is long. Protects the boat and keeps the boat in a stationary position. I never tie up, but this seems to serve the purpose and is inexpensive.

I use C-clamps on the beam if I can reach it. If not, I use long trigger clamps and clamp them to the piling.

Thanks Jono. Gonna get me a couple of them. Harbor Freight has cheap ones that work fine for what you're wanting. Be sure you actually tie or clip your rope to it, instead of just looping it around it and back to the boat, so you won't lose your clamp if it pulls off.

I'm gonna need one of those. Fishing saltwater, you use a spring mechanism to account for the motion of the ocean, but in freshwater you should just be able to tie the hook straight to the cleat with some rope. They're pretty invaluable.

A rig hook isn't very useful under the Guntersville bridges.

Thanks PRB. I'd wondered a bit.

Take a good look at where/how you usually tie up, like that, and build a rig hook that accommodates your needs. There's no wrong way to build it if it's safe and does what it's supposed to do. First one I ever saw (didn't call it a rig hook, back then) was on a lake here close to home...it was an old framing square with a hole in one end...anchor rope was attached to the hole, the square was slipped through the expansion joint between two bridge sections on top of a piling. The old man who made it was fishing out of a 14' jon boat, so it wasn't like it had to hold a lot of weight. Seemed to be working like a champ everytime I saw him up there using it!
