I just wondered if would be safe to try to shoot my mild recoiling 308? It's just to the right of my right shoulder and I'm right handed. My other option would be trying lefty.

This is also assuming that I get to feeling much better than I am right now. Just weighing out possibilities to keep me thinking right. My health comes first, so if there's the slightest chance my port will get hurt, I'll bag this season for next season. Thanks guys.

when I had mine put in 15 years ago it was right before turkey season. I ask the doctor where he was going to put it? he said right side of chest, I ask him if he could put it on the left side. he asked why, I told him turkey season was about to start and I WAS going hunting. he put it on the left side.

if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

You might be a whitetail addict......if you hunt with a chemo port inside you. smile

Only one way to find out! laugh. My pawpaw did it during deer and turkey season with a larger calliber but if it was me I would get a 22-250 and hunt without worries. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

That would be the one I would use. You don't want to beat the cancer only to have some kind of complications that could have been prevented. Infections around a port can be serious.

God bless my friend. I'll be praying for your complete recovery.

central ala,
Odd this subject comes up now. Hate your problems and wish you the best. I have a different problem: neck. Already had surgery about 2 years ago but things are still not good. I shot my 25-06 this morning and the 2nd shot about took me to my knees. I shot 2 more times and had to quit. Headache ever since. Been looking at 22-250's on the web all day. Winchester has one that has caught my fancy. My personal preference is I don't want to have to go to a 223.

You won't have any problem killing deer with a 22-250 or 223. Use a Barnes or Partition and make the shot count at a reasonable range and it will kill just as good as anything.

Oh, I know. I might, just might, have killed a few with a .22.
Even killed one with a .380 pistol once.

My dad,in his bad old days killed piles of deer with a 22 LR. He needed the deer for food and all he had was the 22 LR.

JW, I work in the medical field with patients who have Central lines and medi-ports(under the skin). I would strongly recommend that you shoot left handed. You don't want any chance of dislodging the internal placement of the port where it enters the subclavian vein or create an issue where a big clot may form. Sorry, but I'd rather speak up and save you some misery later. If you can figure out how to shoot left handed I would suggest using a .223 or the 22-250 with extra padding.

I did with a dialysis port in my right shoulder. I was careful but pulled the trigger on shotguns and rifles.

If ok by doc look at managed recoil ammo for .308. Has half recoil than normal ammo.
