Hunting a thick oak-ey bottom with hardly a shot past 15 yards. Figured I had a good combo here of cover, a small spring, and large oak trees.

Hunting Bankhead National Forest this afternoon. I'm set up in some 4 year old burnt pines. Trails everywhere and this one lone red oak they are hitting pretty hard. I may get caught drawing if it's more than one set of eyes, due to having zero cover. We will see. Good luck y'all.

Saw a 4 point at Cahaba that was downwind of me. He winded me and started blowing and that was pretty much the end of my hunt.

Hunted corps land today for my first sit of the year. Ended up seeing two does and a fawn, 2 gobblers, 2 dillos, and the biggest boar I've seen in person. No shots on the deer or boar. Great first sit of the season

My story from this morning. I ran deer out walking in. Got in my stand as quiet as possible. At 7:00 I hear deer coming but can't see them at first. i catch movement through the cover and see them headed my way. They make a turn to their right away from me and circle back in behind me. With the cover of the trees I can only catch a glimpse of them every now and then. They are at about 25yds but I can barely see them. I can tell both are bucks but no clue how big or how small. I do know that one has a much larger body than the other and I can see more tines sticking up. All of a sudden I see them snap their heads up. I look at the sting tied on my stabilizer and the wind has changed directions and is blowing right to them. They didn't spook or do anything crazy but they did know that something just wasn't right. They turned and started to leave but were not in a rush. I find a hole to shoot through and as the bigger of the 2 walk in the opening he just happened to stop. He was HARD quartering away. I figured I could sneak my arrow right in front of his hind quarter and catch the last rib and it would be over. I made sure I was settled in good and everything felt right and I turned her loose. That's when things went south. I hit him right in the hind quarter. They both bolted out of there. At this point I am furious with myself. I was completely confident that I could make that shot as I have many times before. I started texting a few buddies to see what they thought. My only hope was that I hit the femoral artery. I sat in the stand for 2 hours and had planned on giving him more time than that but I looked with my binos and picked up a LOT of blood where I shot him. I decided to climb down and investigate a little closer. After seeing all the blood and following the blood trail a short piece I decided to go ahead and trail him. He went about 80-90yds and was done. It was an easy trail to follow. When I found him I seen that the tip of the rage had barely poked through right behind his offside shoulder. I took a close look when cleaning him and I had cut the artery, passed through his guts, got his liver and one of his lungs. The rage extreme done its job and it was a good reminder why I started shooting heavier arrows instead of lighter, faster arrows like I use to. He doesn't have the biggest rack but he weighed 175lbs and we figured him to be a 4 year old.
