I wake up early, get settled atleast an hour early before sunrise!

Sequence of events;
Get to the parking spot, 0330.
Slowly walk .75 miles to my spot and climb my tree and get settled 0500.
Sunrise 615
A hunter walks in 10 yards from my stand 0625, loud!
I politely advise the guy I am here.
He points in the direction he is going.
I tell him that is where my deer come from. (By the way I am in a funnel) deer come from that way in the morning. The only way!
He says he used to hunt here 2 years ago.
I say, "okay"
He says " I will set up to where they walk between us"

I'd bet he didn't go 150 yards passed me and set up.

He is cutting me off on 90% of my deer, yes they can come
From the other way, but 9 times out of 10 they come from the way he went.

I just believe he should of backed out and went some where else.

What do y'all think?

If we meet again, I will be talking with him some more.

you told him which way the deer come from what did you expect?

I've dealt with it... This week as a matter of fact on Fort Knox. I walked in, and was still on the walk in when this young kid (maybe 20 at the oldest) catches up to me on the logging road. I show him a topo map on my phone, and tell him exactly where I am going. He says "I've got a trail camera there and am going to the same spot." I tell him I got here first... doesn't matter. So I say "Ok, thanks. Have a great morning." I let him walk on in, then I go about 150 yards past him and climb. Killed the 8 pt. later that morning too. God is good, and karma bit that young man square in the azz. thumbup

Yes public land has it rewards and headaches. Just be sure not to help him drag a deer out. Lol.

It's too bad that, 'do unto others,' doesn't exist on public land.

Update:

I planned sitting to atleast 10.

Here he comes back, 815! He walked by 0625 and back by 815...

Needless to say we talked and he noticed I was not happy with him. He apologized and pretty much stated he was going to hunt other places from now on.

All was cool, just a learning experience. I am glad I kept my cool.

I hope everyone has good luck today! I am headed to work.

I've been there and even done that.

Last year got in early afternoon to set up for an evening hunt on a funnel and had a guy walk right up on me about 45 mins before prime time. I spoke with him and he was just a prick about. He was all like well this is public land and blah blah blah. Needless to say that ruined my hunt cause he went the same direction in which the deer came from. I even watched him go down a few hundred yard and set up. Pissed me off. Never hunted that area again thanks to him.

Then same year I ended up walking in one morning "still early" on a guy that was set up in a ground blind. Him and I spoke about direction and all so we agreed we could work the area together. We worked out a plan so that we both had good spots. Needless to say deer came in from closer to him. Long story short on that I helped him drag it out and all.

Public land hunting is a big challenge also because you never know if someone is in "your" spot. That's why I always have several in the area.

Good luck hunting man.

Good Job. I have found that most people are pretty practical if you just take the time to talk with them. I have welcomed people into a hunting area that walked in on me before. I'll bow hunt with a buddy with us a hundred yards apart so why not another fellow bowhunter. I will say that I don't like it when somebody walks in on me but it happens so why not make it work for both hunters

The joys of public land.....
Set up one morning only one way into plot. Guy parks right behind my truck. I hear him get out and he walks right by me. I am sitting on the ground over to the side of the road. He comes out later while I am still sitting in same spot. I was hoping he might give me good mojo and scare one out on me. He ask if I had been sitting there all the time. I said yelp I could have reached out and grabbed you this morning you walked by me so close. He proceeded to tell me how wrong I was hunting. He didn't know I shot at one earlier in season further down the road and seen another one on the way out on the trail he crossed on.
Another time I had a spot others decided to takeover. Turned that around on them and shot one out from under them nearby. There were four deer shot in that spot between me and another guy in less than two weeks.
Other times I have walked right up under people during bow season not on purpose.
If you hunt public land you just have to remember "public" means you never know what you might see.
Ever seen ladies underwear hanging in woods? They where still new too. Just some crazy chit out there! Laugh and try again next time.

You cut my story up, you must be a Hillary fan!

This funnel makes the deer come from 2 ways, one happens to be better then the other.
I figured by implying that my deer come from that way, he would be messing my hunt up. He responded by saying he would sit to where they came between us.

Had a similar experience at Lowndes years ago; get up and drive 120 miles. Get set 30 minutes before light. 30 minutes after sunrise some guy comes in to the area with his climber. I wave my orange hat at him so he can see where I am. He proceeds to climb tree 40 yards from me! I climb down and take a piss and leave. C'mon man.

Yeah, good idea! there is only one way in. I have thought of making a sign saying "hunter ahead, please be respectful." Something like that. Idk. I'll think of
Something! Thank you everyone for the great stories! I atleast know there are some decent people out there!

Don't hang a sign. That just makes it look like you are trying to rope off an entire section and pisses people off.

I can tolerate getting walked in on if it's accidental, or the guy came from another direction, etc. It's the jackhole that parks where my truck is already parked and comes on in that pisses me off. I have this discussion all the time...most of my hunting is done on a military base and it's sectioned off in areas (most range from 250 to 400 acres). Their rule of thumb for permit issuing is 1 hunter per 40 ac, so most times you're not the only one there. Problem is we all know that on 400 acres, all of it isn't equal, and most people know the same good spots. So the game there (as is the case on a WMA) is first come first serve. If I beat you to the roadbed, GO ON!!!!! Nothing makes me more fighting mad than to get there at 3:00 to be first to the area, then your sorry butt roll in at 5:00 and park beside me. If you want a fight, you got one!

If they see your truck in a parking spot how in the world are they supposed to know which direction you went? When ever I've hunted public land there have been woods 360 degrees around the parking spots. You just want them to turn around and leave cause you got there first or its "your" spot. That's just as bad as saying "your" deer.

Again, the portion we are talking about is the contact. Instead of deciding to walk passed me, because it is the only way passed me (hence the word FUNNEL) and then set up 150 yards away from me. He would of went back where he came from. He knew he was only staying an less then 2 hours.

Shouldn't of he, once contact was made, backed out because I am hunting the area? Or say to himself "I don't care about him or his hunt" I'm going to walk up his funnel and set up. Sit about an hour and walk back through.

Come on negative people, Hillary is a thing of the past. No need to continue to think like her.

I expect them to. Unless I'm able to talk to someone who is parked at a spot, I never park there and walk in. The only exception is some places out west where there are thousands of acres and only one or two gates. In Alabama, everywhere I've hunted there are plenty of access points. Just last week in Kentucky. I got beat to a spot. It was a long walk in there and I'm about 99% sure I wouldn't have been anywhere close to them. Didn't matter, I moved to a different spot anyways. It's common courtesy and it's becoming more and more lacking.

Should have, yes. But get used to it, it happens to me every year on public land.
