How long do they drop acorns? Found a hot tree while scouting over the weekend and hoping its still dropping by the time the weekend rolls around.

I found a white oak a week before opening day and the ground was littered with big fat green acorns that looked like they hadn't been touched. Went there opening morning, no deer, and not a single acorn.

Depends on the tree. Red oak species drop the latest. White oaks drop earlier.

This is a huge water oak along an smz in a fresh cut over. Other trees in the area dropping but this one is by far the biggest and they are hammering it. Its also in a perfect little pinch point.. i plan to hunt it regardless, just hoping they still hitting the acorns hard

If it's a water oak you'll be fine. They drop longer than most.

I couldn't agree more. If i'm hunting acorns, i9 always wait until good daylight before going in. I used to always run deer off of acorn tree's going in before daylight.

Hunted white oaks last Monday. Went in about 30 mins before daylight and did not run anything off. About 5-10 mins after decent light a spot a few bucks 40 yards away, one that I wanted to shoot. He ended up walking off the other way. If I would have waited till after might to walk in I would have ran them off. I guess you never know, each property is different. I do typically see the better bucks in these oaks later in the morning.
