AHHHHHHHHHHH

I had 4 does come in at around 7:30. One peeled off from the others and I had an open shot. I took a deep breathe....aimed....AND FORGOT TO BEND AT THE WAIST. For as much as you guys harp on people, and as much as I repeat it in my head...I guess I got too excited and forgot. Literally cut hair off the does back. Sat there sick to my stomach for ruining my chance....then I realized I wasn't sick to my stomach because of that, my insulin pump had been ripped out on the walk in! LOL So I'm back home, still excited I even got a chance at a shot, hoping to get another shot this evening or maybe tomorrow morning.

I got skunked this morning. Did a little more walking around and found a better tree for rifle season and a car hood size scrape about 75 yards away. That spot is a definite winner for the rut. Can't wait to hunt it again but I'm gonna stay out of there for another month probably. On to the next bow hole.

Honestly, I was glad that I saw some deer that close that had no idea I was there in the first week of the season. Made me feel better about what I've been doing. So here is a question, they obviously figured out something was there...should I go back tomorrow or do you let stands "rest" for a day or two? Never had this situation...new to it all.

Another 2 does came in about 45 minutes after, but I never had a shot on them. Its a natural funnel that funnels right into a huge oak...I think i found my spot. at least for now.

I've done that for years. I use a blower now. Only way off the road though, I hunt public land ya know.

You're call Jono. Congrats on getting a shot. If it was me, I'd be right back in there.

Juno Go back and hunt it again tomorrow. You should be fine. I actually did something similar a couple of years ago and shot the doe I gave a haircut later the same day.

Well I finally made it into a stand. Kids and work have much more say so in my hunting schedule than what they use to. But I'm here and just as excited as if it were opening day. I'm with Jono this year, no recorded bow kills in my hunting career either so here we go again.

Hunt safe and smart. It will happen, trust me there is nothing like getting one close and running a stick thru them. Good luck !

Don't pull out your insulin pump again. We don't need you passing out up a tree. You better have someone who knows where you are.

Trying a different spot this afternoon. Down in a swamp with a running spring keeping it filled. Little spot of hardwoods mostly sweet gums with cutover on both sides. Hoping one gets thirsty this afternoon. This pine tree is rocking but not to bad

I always show my wife on a map where I'm going to be and also our club has a pin board so everyone knows where everyone else is. I have stuff on my person at all times, but most of the time it is just safer/easier to go home and fix the problem. Putting my pump back on in the woods isn't the most sanitary thing, but I can do it if it really came down to it.
