Saw a thread recently on AT and a bunch of those guys were shooting 80-85. Just seems stupid. I mean even 70 is really overkill but 80-85...dang. I mean, why?

That is stupid for Whitetails. It's common for folks going to Africa I think.

I think alot of those guys are trying to shoot super heavy arrows at 300 fps.

For some, it is to gain attention and have people ooh and ahh over their strength.
For others, they are trying to generate the maximum Kinetic Energy. Most shoot a very heavy arrow and broadhead. I don't think speed is their main focus.

65lbs for me. I shot 70lbs for a long time and I let SHAW talk me into going to 65lbs. I don't ever see me going any higher than that again...

I used to shoot 80 lb limbs. I wanted a bow that could hunt out west with. I would shoot a fairly heavy arrow with a fixed broadhead. I would have it maxed out when hunting elk.

When hunting whitetail, I would usually back it off to 74-76 lbs, which was very comfortable to me.

My son, who is really getting into archery, took one of my old 80 lb bows and shot it through a chrono and it was over 300 fps.

Of the 3 elk that I've killed (different bows), I've gotten 2 complete pass throughs and 1 that was nearly a pass through.

Yeah, I think mine is around 62ish. I'd probably back it down to low/mid-50's if it had that much adjustment in it

#72 Here or that's what the scales say, its comfortable but I have been shooting regularly for a long time. I don't see the need in going any higher.

30 years ago, I shot a Hoyt that was rated 75-90#. Had a deer on Lauderdale WMA come in behind me on a really cold day and couldn't draw it. Carried it to the Hoyt dealer in Hunstville (Gery Hart???). He put it on the scale and it took 103# to break it over. I had bought the bow for an elk hunt. I got the dealer to order a set of 70# limbs.

With todays equipment you don't need that much draw poundage.

Hell at my age and with my bum knees, shoulders, elbows, wrist, well you name...any position is awkward.
I try to avoid it
