My left knee is shot. Even after a major surgery that was botched 3 years ago, it's hurting all the time now
and I just can't get around good anymore.
Who has had their's replaced and tell me your experience with everything please? What kind of recovery time am I facing, etc, and who in the Bham area is good and who to stay away from?
I had my last ordeal done with the Lemak group, it was a female surgeon, and she's no longer with that group. I was not pleased at all with her work and the end result was that I was left with a limp and a knee that has not stopped hurting since the surgery 3 years ago.
What y'all got for me?

Man, I'm gonna have both of mine scoped one after the other in the coming weeks, but I ain't having to go through a replacement yet. I hope it turns out good for ya. I'm gonna be looking at the comments you receive here.

I know you're dreading it, and we'll be thinking about you.

You really need to call Dr George Robert booker at south lake orthopedics. He learned from one of the best Dr Bill Bryant. George Robert is a friend from our days back in Selma. Very smart guy and heck of a Dr.

Br Booker, South Lake Ortho in Bham did both of my sisters knees and it has been life changing for her. One was summer 2014 and the other summer 2015. I think about 6 weeks recovery for each one. Dr Booker also did rotator cuff for me, no problems.

Another vote for George Robert Booker. I visited his office and was very impressed. Haven't had a surgery but know him and would fully trust him. If around the Huntsville area contact the office of Dr. Chris Parks. He's a young orthopaedic surgeon but an expert in hip replacement already and a personal friend and great guy. I'd trust him with any procedure I needed.

DW, I'll be double nickel/55 next month but make up for it by eating good, lol.
Thanks for the comments so far. Yep, I've put it off as long as I can and did my best to ignore the pain, but it's now time to do something.
I actually asked the last Dr since my knee was in such bad shape and she was going to have to do so much to it, that why couldn't I just go ahead and get a full replacement, her comment was that I was too young to have that done. I should have gotten a second opinion but had to do something like right then,... I had full blown my knee out and man was it bad!
Thanks !!!!

I'm a few months older than you. I did have a fusion of the great toe at Alabama Sports Medicine about 15 years ago and they had a great staff there, but never any knee stuff done.

Good luck and God bless, man.

At 55, Id try the injectable gels such as euflexxa that have been shown to greatly help osteoarthritis. My FIL has had this done and several of my patients get them with no issues. Total joints usually only last 10-15 years YMMV however. Good luck, i have taken care and managed several patients post op and if you do go that route remember... how your mobilization is determined later on down the road post procedure all depends on you. How much work you put into rehab and performing your exercises

Anything related to knees in the Bham area, I would atleast look into Lyle Cain.

Everybody I know that has had knee replacement surgery had one common thing to say. They wished they had of had the surgery a year or two earlier. They would have not had the extra pain and the knee and them would have been in better shape to heal/rehab right.

My mother had both of hers replaced a year apart at the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, FL about 6 years ago. She had ZERO issues with hers, and will tell you any day you ask that it's the best decision she's ever made. If you're able, I cannot stress strongly enough how much I would opt to have it done there. Her doctor was Dr. O'Grady.

Hey Foureyes45, I see you're from Eufaula, do you know my uncle Bob McGowan and wife Betty and sons Tom and Robert? Uncle Bob would be right about your age and lived on Sanford street until a few years ago. I think they moved across the lake to Georgetown maybe?
Thanks for the comments so far fellers, I'll need to have it done in Bham though.
