I hunt Walker, Winston, and Greene counties.Right now though I'm in the middle of a total remodel of my house, and I mean complete gut with an addition added on. It's taken way longer than I've hoped. I won't get to bow hunt any this year, hell I don't even have a clue where my bow is right now, but if everything works out I should be finished by gun season.

I got my doe out of the way early ...save the rest of my does for my kids in case they decide to shoot one. At my club I only get 3 a year. So it is buck only for me and it has to be 8 point or better ...so with that being said I guess I will get us a buck on the board this coming weekend

Sighted in rifles this morning. Plan on doing some looking around Friday. Taking my 4yr old Saturday morning. He is pumped up, he has asked if its Saturday everyday since I asked him if he wanted to go. Hopefully we'll see some deer, and maybe get one on the ground.

so, I'm sitting in a ground blind today on the Cahaba WMA watching a couple of good game trails leading to a food plot about a hundred yards away. I got in early this morning and had planned to ride things out as long as I could.
Just before noon, I spot movement, but couldn't really tell anything about it, so I waited on "high alert"!
It seemed to take forever, but I could still see this deer moving in the pines, and headed my way.
Then I saw it, HORNS!
The old boy eased thru the woods without making a sound. It was really amazing to watch.
As he stepped into an opening, I bout shat my pants. He was LARGE!
Biggest deer I've ever seen.
I steadied myself as best I could and took aim... breathe.. squeez...BOOM!!!
Long story short, I missed.
I was devastated. I looked for an hour for blood, hair, anything...nothing.
I went home soaking wet and empty handed.

Well fuzz it happens. Anyone who said they've never missed one hasnt shot at a whole lot of them. If you have the time I would ease back in there in a couple of days do a grid search. Look for crowes, and buzzards. With everything being as wet as it is you can miss blood pretty easy.

I actually set up a target this afternoon and took a 20 yard shot... I was off 6 inches to the left. Now if my math/geometry is correct, that puts me off by about 200 miles at 100 yards!
Seriously though, I was off so bad that I am confident that it was a clean miss.
I am going back to the same spot this next weekend and give it another try.
BTW when I shot, the buck didn't act like he was hit. He wheeled around and ran back into the direction he came from.

With any kind of luck, I'm hoping for an upgrade this weekend.
Leaving early tomorrow morning for Loundes county and I am taking food, my bow, my rifle, and my tent and sleeping bag.
I will either be in the woods until it gets dark on Sunday or until I get that big buck I'm looking for.
Hopefully I will get all set up in the morning and have to pack it all up tomorrow night and come home with a couple in the truck.
I will check in when I can.

Well my good buddy killed the deer Ive spent most of the last month trying to lay eyes on so that headache is gone, maybe I can get a good one before season goes out. When he text me this morning to tell me he got him I said GOOD, I can hunt somewhere else now.I'm glad he got him
