So I moved from Jefferson Co to Shelby Co in July. Hoover to Chelsea. I can't express how nice and easy it has been dealing with all the city/county bureaucracy as compared to dealing with Jefferson Co. Shelby Co is growing a lot, but it still has that small rural feel. Short lines, nice people, much cheaper!

The drive into and back from Hoover sucks from time to time, but it's not too bad.

I knew Jefferson Co was bad, just never knew how bad until I moved. They are much bigger so it kind of makes sense, but I sho' ain't missing it.

Carry On.

We're in the same boat, moved from Hoover to Chelsea in March and the drive to/from work sucks but man it sure is nice to come home to a place that has that community/small town feel.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to our tag office for Bibb County, and they actually started arguing wanting to serve me. The small town feel is great.

Glad it's working out for y'all. I would love to get out of Jefferson County, but don't see it happening anytime soon.

Wait till you renew your license or have to get your tags changed......You will be astounded. The people at the license office in Shelby Co (280) are friendly and talkative. Tell me to have a good day when I leave. Just last week I renewed my drivers license and was in the office for less than 10 minutes.

Similar feel and friendliness in Tuscaloosa and St. Clair.

Welcome to Chelsea! Love it here! If you get a chance, come by city hall tomorrow (Sat Oct.1) and hang out at Chelsea Day. 9am-3pm. Tons of vendors and the HS band will be performing all day. It is the band's biggest fundraiser. My twin boys are in the band.

I know what you mean. I have been in St. Clair for several 5 years or so. I wasnt sure I was in the right place when I went to the Ashville courthouse and was first in line to a bunch of smiling employees trying to make small talk. Totally different from 2 hours of waiting and wanting to jump across on the counter on somebody.

Wife told me today that she wanted to go to that, so I'll have the 3 boys with us (17, 15, and 2).

You will need to park at the middle school on 39. They will have shuttles to take you to City Hall. There is also a silent auction inside City Hall. I will be there all day. You will see my canopy tent up the hill next to the band.

And when you go to the SO in Columbiana to get your CC permit there will be no line, the lady will smile and have your permit in about 5 minutes.

Any good local places to eat in Chelsea?

I went in to get my CC permit a few months ago here in Florida and it took 2 months to get it back, $140 for 7 years.

You don't have to go anywhere to renew your drivers license. I just did mine online in 10 minutes and it cost $40. I think you can do it every other renewal or 8 years. Or you can go to any county office, you don't have to go in the county you live.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

I have lived in Shelby county my whole life, I am 50, and I have seen the changes through the years. Alabaster, Pelham and Helena used to be small town until more people moved in, now it is over crowded. Enjoy the small town life while you can because Chelsea will grown and soon you will want to move just like I want to now.

But who prays for Satan? Who, in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most?
