Thing is...they didn't make an illegal fwd pass call nor illegal shift. Can't remember the name of the white hat ref, but as a bama fan, i hope he never calls another bama game. His crew always screws the pooch.

Thing is any scoring play is reviewable. It's very easy to see that the didn't get the snap off in time. If anyone shoulders the blame for losing that game it is Miles for not having them ready on that final drive. They wasted a ton of time between plays

Now I have an irrelevant question: Why didn't the play clock and game clock start at the same time? They took too long according to BOTH clocks but I thought they would start together.

The game clock starts when the chains are set on a first down play unless the ball carrier went out of bounds. The play clock starts when the ball is set. Often they start together. When the ref drops his hand and toots the whistle he is starting the play clock. When he winds his arm he is starting the game clock. Often you'll see them drop and immediately wind in one motion but sometimes the chains get first before the ball and the game clock starts first.

All that sounds good and all, except it wasn't a first down play. It was 4th and 11.

All that sounds good and all, except it wasn't a first down play. It was 4th and 11. That's right, but it was a penalty play and without the penalty the clock would have wound when the chains reset. Therefore, the same thing applies, the game clock starts with the ready for play whistle. Another thing, The game clock on TV doesn't show 1/10ths of seconds. It could have possibly only been .1 second and still show a full second. I don't know why they NCAA does this. The clock at my son's little private school shows tenths of seconds when it gets inside 10 second. That can really make a difference sometimes.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The late play that I had a question about was the pass play where the receiver caught the ball, spun and went out of bounds that would have stopped the clock. The ref called it dead in mid play. I would have to see it again. I remember the play. He called it forward progress and I think it was the right call.

Just got home from the game. It was the best, worse game I've ever been to. The final series happened right in front of our seats. It was a good time.
As far as the last play, as much as the refs tried to wait to start the clock until the LSU players got set, time expired anyway. Fact is, it was a BS call that an LSU penalty was actually helping them. If it weren't for that, there is no way they get another play in. You must have been right by me
