New hunter this year. Planning to bow hunt only. Looking for a solid stand that I can carry in and out each time I hunt. I've seen most stands have a weight capacity of 300 lbs. Im 6'1" 270 without gear so I know I would be borderline with most stands. Any suggestions on a stand that wont break the bank ($150ish or less) that I wont feel like is going to fall apart. I'd rather spend a little more and feel safe if needed. I prefer hang-on stands over climbers because I hear I can get into more trees with hang-ons. Any help is appreciated.

Are you in a club or hunting public land? I ask because mellinnium makes some good hang on stands you can carry in and out but if your public hunting you won't want to leave anything out there and will need a climber.

Everybody is gonna have their own opinion but if it were me I'd buy a Summit Goliath, especially because of your size. You just have to pre season scout and find climbable trees. The Summit climbers are the most comfortable stand I've ever been in.

You would be better to consider the weight of the stand. Its way outside your price range but look at treewalkers.

To answer previous the question, I will be hunting public land so I cannot leave anything out there. So no one would suggest a hang on to carry in and out each time?

Guys up north do it, but its hard to find a climbable tree there.

I would; I hate climbers. Find a small lock-on & learn how to put screw-in steps into a tree & take 6-9 of them w/you & go to town, man. Depending on the sitch, you only need to get 12-15 ft. up, so 6-9 screw-in steps, hang the lock-on, and you're there... If you can find an old Gorilla or Loc On brand stand, they made some very small models that are perfect for one & done situations...

Here you go:

Lone Wolf makes a quiver to carry the climbing stick with (not pictured)

Well since he's hunting public ground then screw-in steps will more than likely be illegal, atleast for all AL public land. For packing in and out you might look at either Lone Wolf or XOP hang-ons and either their climbing sticks or a set of Muddys. I've been looking at some stick talons as well that would attach my sticks to my stand.

Been a while, but they're illegal to leave, not use, right? At least that's what I thought the regs said (on Forever Wild lands)... Nevertheless, ya, if they are, then climbing sticks would work, probably even better...

10-4 did not know that... Just Google'd it & y'all are correct, 1. Illegal on AL WMA's( - y) To erect any permanent tree stand or install any screw-in type steps, spikes, nails or otherwise damage any standing live tree. No portable stands may be used within 50 yards of the boundary line on Barbour and Geneva State Forest AREAS.

Find a telephone pole then!! LOL In all seriousness, tho, watch this vid of this guy; gets up the tree in 5 mins & hangs a lock-on... You can get good at this enough to do it in low-light situations, too...

I bought a XOP Air raid and the XOP sticks so I could try an extremely mobile set up this year. I also grabbed the stick talons but haven't had a chance to climb using them yet.

I have an extra XOP air raid for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested

Definitely the lightest and best but over $150.
