And thank god I'm not. I start by firing that howdy doody looking OC Rhett lashlee. At this point no decent coach will come to AU. Too much at risk of career failure. But he's gotta change something. If nothing else we the fans want to see something change. Other than running a different QB on the field. The clock may be ticking with Gouge stepping down this week. A new prez may shitcan Jacobs "hopefully" and may clean house on the football side. Who knows. But something on the offensive side has got to change. My vote is let that goofy ass OC go. NOW!

You act more like a Bama fan than most of the bama fans.

central ala,
Didn't Gus say this summer he would be taking a more active role on the offensive side? Coordinator firings at AU have saved the HC a few times but that isn't going to save Gus this time. AU is just not getting a return on a $4 million/year investment.

He's been one of very few realistic Auburn fans that I've seen the past year and a half. If I was a Auburn fan I sure as hell wouldn't be proud or happy with the product being rolled onto the field every week.

As a Bama fan, I hope they keep Gus, Lashlee, and Jay around for a long time.

He takes it to extremes for reaction but if you cut through all that, he is right. Has been for quite some time. Others(like myself) are beginning to realize it.

Naw man I'm just tired of the same result every time. 2-10 in last 12 SEC games. Even Ky and Vandy make changes on those kind of numbers. AU hasn't put a competetive product on the field in a looooong time now.

Don't think just college. That Kelly the Eagles let go. Wasn't he the one who put Oregon on the map?

Auburn's problem right now, and it's not just athletics, is one of , man look at the things we've done in the past, look at our tradition, look at the experience you have, don't you feel good about yourself, etc etc. They're pretty complacent about success. It's almost a "well were better than average, that's good enough, don't you feel good about Auburn? Send us a donation today, War Eagle". And ill say it again, it's not just athletics. It's the entire damn campus. Too many folks on the board of directors cut from the same cloth with the same old money ties to Auburn that they've been dealing with for 30 years. It's going to take a president that is willing to not accept mediocrity in anything to change. Sadly, I've got a pretty good idea who may be the next president and it's going to be more of the same.

i am mostly an alabama fan for football. but i want auburn to do well. i really do. malzahn is an embarrassment not only to auburn but to the state. kevin steele is doing an excellent job with the defense, but those boys are going to be beat down two deep for the rest of the season if the offense does not give them some breaks.

But Reb and Burbank will remind you that the aubies are just 3 years removed from being in the BCS title game.

Hammer. Nail. Bingo.

I'm all for the nice, laid-back, mannerly, Southern gentleman howdy ma'am opening doors sweet tea support the team way of life. But at some point all that is beside the point when it comes to winning and success.

What a lot of those "support the team, yay!" people don't have a clue about is how the success or failure of the football team affects the entire university. Argue about that if you wish but it's true. You don't just miss out on a top quarterback or linebacker or DB for a couple of recruiting classes. It permeates through high school players down to 10th, 9th, 8th grades. It affects donations to other colleges in the university: business, arts, and so forth. It ripples through the business community even if they still do business with you: 'Good guy. His football team sucks, though." And it affects daily social life, from kids in school to folks in church (sadly) on Sunday mornings, to everything in between.

When Alabama floundered in the post-Stallings era it affected the university and its reputation. Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Shula and (interim) Kines had some success but also spectacular WTF moments: DuBose's affair, Fran being the outsider and leaving, Mike Price (whew!) and then Shula's hangdog placeholder status. During that time they won thanks to the history of Alabama still attracting top players, but they didn't win championships and that's what Alabama shoots for EVERY year.

Not every 3-4 years, not every decade, not every 50 f$#*$#g years. EVERY year. Realistic? Not really, by logic. But if you don't expect the best success possible all the time then you get stuck with mediocrity and the "Yay, team anyway! They played hard! Wo'Iggles!" mentality. And anything worse is Vandy or Kentucky where no one gives you the time of day and 8-4 is a reason to be ecstatic (see Vandy, previous coach now at PSU). And that mentality permeates the university, the fans, the alumni, and it's not a recipe for success.

So until they get someone to change that mentality and really stoke the fires, and IMO right now the top five to do that would be Saban, Meyer, Briles, Petrino and maybe Tom Herman at Houston, things may not change.

Theres another quote in that article "There's a bunch of schools in this league that would love to be in our position with a guy like him."

I would love to know who these schools are.

Kentucky, Vandy and Mizzou came to mind but I didn't see them on this list.
