Bout to pick up a good deal on a bow, but it's a 30" draw. I shoot 29". Checked on cams, but as busy as most shops are right now, it might be a mess trying to get it set up. Anyone ever used a hand held release to compensate for about an inch too long or draw?

I tried but couldn't get it to work for me. It wasn't a draw length issue tho. Good luck

If the bow just takes a module for the draw length, you may be able swap it out yourself. Brands are different.

But yes, a handheld release can take up a little draw length. Not sure about a full inch or not.

Just attach your release to the string, instead of a d-loop.

Shaw would be better equipped to answer this but I don't think you should ever try to compensate draw length through anything other than, a bow that is your draw length. Change the Cam or whatever you need to but D-Loops, adjustable releases etc...NOPE.

It's not that big of a deal. I shot a bow for over a decade that had "too long" of a draw length. The longer draw length felt better than the "correct" one. It really just depends on how well he can shoot it and how comfortable it is to him.

Shot several years without a d-loop. That can be a 1/2" compensated for. But bows were longer ATA back then and didn't pinch the nock like today.

Switchback xt, have to change cams. Not crazy about shooting off the string. But may go that route. Marks has a cam in stock, but I hate to let them touch a bow lol. Gonna call Nichols Monday

You ought to be able to find a 29" easily on eBay or Archerytalk. Won't take but maybe 10 minutes to change it out. You'll be better off getting it set to your correct draw length instead of changing releases. You may be able to get your hand near your normal anchor, but the draw will still be too long. You'll still be over extended and the string will come back further on your face. Trying to shoot that XT with a 30" draw off the string will be tricky because of the axle to axle length. The string angle will be pretty steep and you'll run into problems with the release pinching the nock.

Don't listen to N2TRKYS, he's weird. grin

31 inch axle to axle on the XT. I have one with 28.5 draw length and it is steep.

X2 on N2TRKYS being weird.

I saw a guy screw a wood block on his grip to make his bow fit him. He hunted with it for a few years like that. It was entertaining to say the least.
