My wife and I both have very high credit scores, almost as high as it gets) and we haven't carried a balance on a credit card or auto loan in 10 years. We do have a mortgage. We aren't filthy rich either...have to live on a budget each month.

I use my credit card for gasoline and travel expenses throughout each month and pay it off in full each month. On occasion, maybe once a year, I may buy a bigger ticket item (Home Depot or HH Gregg, etc...) on 6 months no interest, but I always pay it off early.

The key to good credit from my layman's perspective is this:
1. Don't be late with any payments
2. Don't charge too much so you can't pay it off monthly or at most within 2 months.
3. Create a track record of having available credit and being ultra responsible with it. Use the credit but stay strong financially by not carrying debt.
4. Credit score shows a risk of defaulting. The higher the score, the less track history of risky financial management or less financial stability.

That is what we have practiced and in the long term we have very high credit scores. We were not trying to get them, they just happen with sound management principles.

One day I'd love to have enough cash flow to eventually EARN a ZERO credit score. Would love to not finance anything and be all cash. All it takes then is a financial statement of cash and net worth to show I don't need credit. That kind of financial proof makes a credit score obsolete.

As far as guns go...I'd buy a Ruger .357 G100 4" revolver. More than $500 though.

Don't you need another 30/30 lever action?

I owned a Marlin 30-30 for a very short while.
It would take a special gun in a special caliber to get my back into a lever gun with the exception of a Henry in .22lr

He doesn't need to carry a balance on his card. That's all I was saying. Pay it off. 20% interest is just silly.

I think Simmons had T3 Tikka's for sale for under $500 recently, but then you'd need to save some more for a scope. Probably the T3 Lites and not sure of the calibers. I really like the Tikka for value in a deer hunting gun.

Columbus is out of marlin 45-70's you'll have to check other wal marts for the 299 deal.

I have a Remington .270 and about a $100 scope. Killed its fair share and would be in that price range. Shoots tight groups.
