I'm wanting some new arrows and I'm trying to decide what to buy. I'm shooting beaman ics hunters now at 8.4 gpi. I'm wanting to go heavier, and I believe I'm under spined now. I'm looking for a hard hitting arrow. What y'all think?

i just switched to the FMJs 11.3 gpi and I really really like them. Just shooting at targets i can tell im going to get much better penetration.

I second the Gold Tip Kinetics, I'm shooting 29" 300 spine Kinetics with a 25 gr outsert & 125 Magnus Stinger Broadhead. 475 grains total arrow weight

If ya go with FMJ's, plan on re-sighting and retiring your other arrows. I have 350 Black Eagles and 340 Gold Tips, both fly well.

I've been looking at the fmj's. I've never shot them but Ive heard good things. That's more the weight I'm looking for. Are they durable? Bend easy?

There's no way that I would shoot an overly heavy arrow for whitetails. It's simply not needed.

One of my shooting buddies switched to them. He sighted in a new sight with them and they group well. He shot his 340's after and they fly about a foot higher. I got a few free practice arrows because of that

Fmj's are a different diameter, you have to retune.

It is if you're like me, and have a honing beacon for shoulders. I lost a 120" 8 year before last, that I shot at a bit less than 20yds. Leaned out around a tree limb to shoot, and pulled it into his shoulder. Shooting 70#s, 380grain ish arrow and slick tricks. Ive had it happen several times on does over the years, but that was the last straw.

What do you have to lose shooting a heavy arrow? Slightly more drop (not nearly as much as people think) but your bow is quieter, and you get much better penetration.

I don't have anything to gain from going to a heavier arrow. I haven't had problems shooting through shoulders. My bow is already quite.

My bow is super quiet, and fast as hell. I've killed four deer with it, two pass throughs and two that did not. And I'd like to have the most confidence as I can get when I draw on one of the 140-150" 200lb plus bucks I have living on my place.

I personally have shot a couple of my FMJ's though my privacy fence, it hasn't bent or dented any of them, I shot the same arrows today. They are a very durable arrow. Ive shot deer in the past with other arrows and see 2/3 of my arrow sticking out of them, it ain't gonna happen with my current set up. 449 grain FMJ's at 310fps, it is around 95lbs of KE.

There's a spot on the shoulder you won't get jackchit through except a bullet. wink

I've only been shooting them for about a month so I can't speak truthfully on how durable they are and luckily at this point I haven't hit anything other than a target to see if they bend. I lost speed but I just switched my entire setup completely. I went from a blazing fast PSE Evo shooting in the 310 FPS range with 390 grain arrows to a pretty fast Carbon Spyder 34 ZT that chrono'd 280 with a 470 grain arrow. I switched my arrow setup because of the big bodied deer I hunt in the Midwest, my lighter arrows just aren't getting great penetration on those deer.

truth^^^^

I've hit that spot with a 570gr arra with a Simmons head out of a 70# bow and not penetrated.

Couldn't be a more true statement.
You wont achieve a pass thru every time no matter what arrow or how heavy it is. The spine of the arrow and how well they shoot is what's important.
