I'm looking for a new range finder for around $250. I have 2 Bushnells and one won't range and the other is consistently off by several yards. I know they have gotten better since I got my last one so advice is needed and appreciated.

I don't have a lot to input here, but the next RF I get needs to illuminate in dark conditions. Mine's a cheapo, about a $150 Bushnell, and it ranges fine. But if it's low light, I can't read it.

Step up a few bucks and buy a Leica; even a used one.

I've got the Vortex Ranger and it seems pretty good.

If that's your budget then you can't beat the Vortex Ranger 1000. Their unconditional warranty makes it worth it alone. Do anything to it besides lose it and they fix or replace it. Good size. Ergonomic feel. Accurate. Built like a tank. My only complaint is that calling it a "1000" is a bit of a stretch. I could regularly get 800 yds but very rarely hit 1000.

The buck stops here.

Make sure you can range from in a blind....learned that one the hard way.

No matter what you spend or what you have your heart set on, find out what the effective range is. My $3248.00 Swarovski EL Range is useless inside of 33 yards, so if you bowhunt, be aware of what you buy.

This. I've got a Leupold that works great but if it isn't good and daylight you can't see the reticle.

I bought a cheap Simmons range finder and will not range thru mesh windows. Total bummer.

Never tried my Leica in that situation; but not sure any of them would do that as the laser needs clear line of sight

Leupold RX-850i TBR with DNA. $249.00. This can be used with Rifle mode or bow mode. Effective range for deer is about 650 to 700 yards in the field. I purchased mine from Opticsplanet. This is my second one. First one gave to a friend for helping me out on a hunt. Leupold says enough about the quality.

Leica, it's more than your price range, but I have nothing but great things to say about it.

I have found most Nikons do, and most Leopold and bushnells dont.
