Yeah rip, don't you know that when your an "EXPERT" you can make those shots! I'm sure he knew that deer was gonna move the way it did. It's all in strategy! Lol

I like watching that show but don't like either of those 2! The brother took a bad shot like that on a previous season show.

bad shots are just that..bad shots. Sometimes ya get lucky and kill the deer on one, but I bet if thats his norm we don't see a lot of his shots/losses.....

I saw the same show. If he practices a 50 yard shot regularly and felt comfortable with taking it good on him. He recovered the deer. The risk to him was worth the reward. It was alert but at 300 fps didn't mean much. 150 feet away would take a fraction of a second to get to the mark. Just saying I've seen bad shots on tv and that wasn't one of them.

Other things being equal, it is the man who shoots with his heart in his bow that hits the mark.

Run the math and see how far a deer that is walking at 3 miles per hour can travel during the arrow flight at 50 yards, much less on one that is already hyped up and comes unglued.

3,000 fps in one thing 300 fps is slow motion.

The deer was Broad side faceing too the left. When he shot The deer turn and the arrow hit it stright on in the brisket.Like the deer was walking to him.
Sorry for the rant but in my eyes it was a bad shot.Even though he recovered it.No matter how much you pratice a 50 yard shot .You cant make that deer stand still like a pratice target.

I'm hearin' ya friend however I still disagree. Would I take a 50 yard shot at a relaxed deer at 50 yards?..probably not. Plenty of more capable hunters than me out there shooting any day. If the deer would have had his head down and in a relaxed stance and at 50 yards would that have made any difference in whether to shoot it or not? IMO its up to the hunter to determine if he's capable of the shot or not. Secondly, I've seen plenty of worse shot selections, extreme quartering towards shots, head on shots. STRAIGHT DOWN SHOTS.....very deadly shot when its accurate just like any shot could be at 50 yards but a STRAIGHT DOWN shot presents a very small vital area and LARGE room for mistake. Thats my .02 cents.

Other things being equal, it is the man who shoots with his heart in his bow that hits the mark.

When it is me, God and the deer, I agree. When it’s someone on the boob tube that is representing the heritage and us the hunters and can't control what impression his actions may have on hunting and non-hunting viewer, I feel discretion and discipline should be mandatory. The majority of these shows just want a kill on tape, no matter what the cost.

Isnt bow hunting about getting them close?

Close is subjective. Ethics is subjective.

Deer can react at 20 yards or 50. Bows are pretty quiet 50 yards away. Just sayin.

50 yards away a bullet traveling 3,000 fps gets to the deer before the sound traveling at 1,100 fps, so sound is not an issue with the right tool at the right distance.

An arrow at 300 fps traveling 50 yards losing speed the entire time allows the animal to move a substantial amount (enough to change a sure kill into a miss or gut shot) sound or no sound.

50 yards is too far to be routinely launching arras at deer. And I don't care how "great" a shot you are on a stationary foam target. Deer don't behave like foam targets and just stand there.

A 50 yard shot on an alert deer at a less than good angle??? Gimme a break, only an idiot or TV "personality" would take that shot op.
