Always called them cow ants or velvet ants.

I've seen 3 of them the last month around and IN the home!

They are hard to kill and they make a sound like a DJ moving a record back and forth real fast.

God Bless,

I stomped on one with flip flops on my stone patio and felt it through the flip flops. Didn't squarsh it and it kept on bee-bopping along.

I remember seeing them as a kid quite often on my grandparents' farm. Haven't seen one in quite some time. We always referred to them as cow ants and used to try to kill them with our flip flops. Never knew they were actually in the wasp family. Very interesting.

They hurt pretty bad. I was stung by one a few months ago. It left a hole in my foot for a day or so, but then cleared on up.

Yep grin

Respect the cow ant is what I was told! Lucky to never get stung...yet. Benydryl may help if you have allergic reaction.

i picked one up with some needle nose one day to look at it closer. He kept shooting his stinger out. It had to be an inch long.

We always called them cow killers. I've seen them and handled them all my life, never been stung. My oldest son stepped on one barefooted when he was about 4 or 5, and he told the news!

I had never heard of a cow killer ant until I saw this thread the other day. I looked it up. I'll be damned if I didn't see one at the camp today.
