Buy the most tractor you can afford and you be thankful later on in life. Find a used 50 to 60 horse tractor instead of a 30hp you'll be happier with it Bush hogging and doing any loader work, box blade work, etc. The heavier tractor will work better for that. A 6 or 7ft Bush hog will out mow a zero turn on a pasture unless you like spending that kinda money on a huge 6ft zero turn and abusing it go for it. If you buy a 30hp 4ft to 5ft Bush hog will be max depending on how heavy the bush hog is. If it's pasture land like a hay field some one will probably cut it for hay till you build a house and it works out for both of you he gets hay you get a kept up field

Oh yeah and stay with a brand tractor that's been around. Remember Mahindra owns daydon motor which is also in kioti tractors. It's not like a john deere when you can go to the dealer and kit an engine kit if you need to build it later on , I know from experience when we had a Mahindra at work that the guy washed the cylinder walls down on it and he wanted us to tear it down and diagnoses it. Found two scar cylinder walls from over heating it and one washed down cylinder froma bad injector. We priced parts out for it and there wasnt a lot that you could even get from the dealer, couldnt get pistons, mainly it was ring, and bearings, and seals was about all that was availbe from the dealer or spend 7500 on a new short block. Told the guy what thendeal was next thing i know a insurance guy showed up took pictures of it then sent a roll back after it said it was totaled. Id stick with a name brand tractor theres to many new brands out like mahindra, LS, kioti. I'm waiting to see if they have the same faith as the other off brand tractors like Montana, IMT,LONG,TAFT,etc

Yes much, much faster.

EDIT: I can go get on 3 different JD tractors and bush hog or I can get on a Kubota 60" zero turn and mow. I have cleaned up missed and rough looking spots in our front hay field many times. If I was in your shoes, 100% of the time I would chose the zero turn.

This. My moms got a similar setup, around 15 acres of pasture, and I never cut it with the tractor. That Kubota diesel zero turn is 3-4x as fast. I use the box blade more than the bushhog on the tractor.

13 acres ain't gonna hold much cattle.

Most tractor places are running 0% for 5 years. Buy a tractor with a front end loader.

Don't forget a 2 acre green field! Really I think this is your best bet. Unless your gonna lease out the pasture for hay or grazing.

JD 5045D. 2wd full size tractor can be had fo around $15k and will run a 6' bush hog and anything from a 72-90" grooming mower. Both cutters will be around $5-6k more money.

Zero turn is faster especially if you have a bunch of stuff to trim around. Tractor with a finish mower is MUCH more comfortable than a ZT if the ground is rough.

7 years ago I bought a used tractor very similar to what I described above. Bought a used grooming mower and bush hog too. Cut 5 acres every week with the mower. New blades every year, a belt or a pulley or two every couple years is all the maintenance the mower requires. Change the oil in the tractor twice a year and air filters, etc.

By now I'd have half worn out a $8-9k big zero turn and it would be worth less than $3500. My tractor and cutters are still worth 75% of what I paid for them and will run many more years like this. I can also use the tractor to bush hog and box blade my driveway AND do work at the hunting club. It will last as long as I will be able to use it at the level of usage I'm putting it through. Zero turn mower is a one trick pony. It's faster but that's its main advantage.

Plant 1/2 acre for yard around house. Fence the rest and forget about spending a lot of your free time cutting grass. My .02 cents
