Just bought a new 270 and I'm looking for a quality 4-16x50 scope that doesn't break the bank. Any suggestions? Any of y'all know anything about the oculus brand from bass pro?

My opinion when it comes to rifle scopes is save up the most money you can afford for a scope, then save up about 150 more. The new Leupold vx-3i's are pretty nice and affordable. The VX-2s are also good scopes. I am kinda fond of leupold and zeiss so I can't speak of other scopes. I will tell you this, I doubt you really need a 16x scope, and when you start getting into high magnification scopes, the price goes up quick.

"Doesn't break the bank" to someone making $30K a year is a lot different than $130K.

What is your budget.

If you can find another $100, there is a fine Zeiss in the classifieds.

I agree with you on the 16x zoom being a little much. More magnification means more movement with every twitch or muscle tremor and can turn into a disadvantage. I know all this. My land is mostly wide open ag fields and I just want a little more than the 3-9x magnification to be able to pull smaller game in such as coyotes and bobcats at longer distances.

I have one of the new Leupold VX3i's and have been pleased with it

They offer a 4.5-14 that would work well for you.
If you go with a 40MM you would have a cheaper price

SWFA.com does 110% price matching, I get most of my optics through them.

If you could add $100 to that SWFA has some of the Bushnell 6500 2.5-16 scopes on the sample list. That's a quality scope. Other than that I would buy a Leupold.

I'd try to find a Burris eurodiamond 4x12x56. They are in the price range and sport excellent glass for the $.

Lumpy has a good one in the classifieds you might want to consider.

He's very good to deal with.

Leupold, vortex, or swfa. You can find vortex vipers for sale in that price point. Vortex is hard to beat for the money.
If you are open to other suggestions, i have a redfield varmint scope that is 6-18x44 and it is a GREAT scope for the money. I personally really like the reticle. It is this one Redfield 6-18x44

did you mean vortex vipers? I've never seen a razor anywhere close to 475.

Ever had any experience with the bushnell banner? They're priced so low it almost steers me away, but I haven't found a negative review on the banner 6-18x50mm yet.

You can till find the 3500 and 4500 at good used prices. Those and the 6500 series are the only Bushnells I would buy.
