I bought a Summit Goliath after season. It's very roomy and comfortable but a bit large if you were going to pack a long distance. I've got the XOP (Lone Wolf knockoff) that packs up tighter and lighter but isn't as comfortable. I'm going to buy a better padded seat to try to improve comfort on it. I can see both having a place in my arsenal. If you're a big guy, you definitely want the wide version of the Lone Wolf. That's the thing I'm fighting with the XOP.

On the distance I like to walk to my stands: “The first 100 yards is also the last 100 yards.”

Knotched 2X8 and screw in steps. Ha. Seriously though I've had the same summit viper for about 10 years now. Love it. Replacement parts are easily available too. Bout to order a new seat for it.

Make sure your OL man has wing nuts on the pins. I hated when they went to the threaded knobs on the pins. I much preferred the locking pins. I love OL' Man climbers, but some of the changes over the years keep pushing me away.

I've climbed beech trees and water oaks with no problem. Not high though, but I'm sure it would grip just fine. I believe summit has the best grip out of any of em I've ever used. The next step will be to make a climber grip a tree without damaging the bark. It won't be long before the tree huggers are gonna get climbers outlawed on public lands for that reason in my opinion.

Something about the way the arms were bowed in the 06-07 models would cause the pin to pop out while in use. Several hunters across the US including Ala died.

I preferred the locking pins way more than the threaded ones. When hearing those stories, I wondered how many folks put them in upside down?

Definitely get the hazemore seat in the lone wolf if you go that route.

Lone wolf is by far the quickest and quietest to put on the tree that I have used. But it doesn't climb as easy as a Summit Viper or that style of stand. I bought a Tree Walker last year and like it a lot.

I've had a summit dagger ( open front, fold flat) for 5-6 seasons and I love it. I mostly bow hunt out of it, need to bring a shooting stick for rest if gun hunting.
