Seven SEC baseball teams made the tournament and all seven hosted a 4 team regional. Although Vandy and Ole Miss got embarrassed at home, and lost 2 straight in the regionals - then watched 3 other teams play on their field to determine the winner - the other five SEC teams managed to win their respective host regionals. Because of the way the brackets worked out, and how the other regional winners were seeded - all five of those schools were able to host a super regional (Florida, TAMU, Miss. State, LSU, and South Carolina). I'm not 100% sure, but it's probably the first time a conference hosted 5 out of 8 super regional sites.
Then the real embarrassment happened. Miss. State lost two straight at home to Arizona. LSU lost two straight at home to Coastal Carolina. SC lost two straight at home to OK State. And TAMU lost 2 out of 3 to TCU.
If UF loses tonight, it will be a home loss sweep for the SEC hosted regionals. Even if UF wins and advances (they are the number 1 overall seed anyway), it has definitely been a poor showing to say the least. Not what you expect from a conference that has dominated baseball the last couple of decades - and had high expectations.

It is (was) embarrassing! The SEC has always had "THE COACH". Skip Bergman, Ron Polk, Ray Tanner, etc. Who would you call THAT coach now?? I personally can't think of one. The Florida guy does well but isn't mentioned with that group yet. Tim Corbin, he's good, probably the best in the SEC. Maybe Alabama will hire that guy. Hopefully this was just a fluke and the SEC will turn it around next year. Now, on to football.

Yeah it was definitely a flop for the SEC in the supers. Especially bad for MSU.

Perhaps it was just bad matchups for the SEC? UF, TAMU, and MS State have a roster capable of a title. You got to beat everybody at some point - for the most part. It shouldn't be match ups at this stage. LSU lost to Coastal Carolina. LSU doesn't lose at home, and have the best, most committed fans in college baseball. You think Coastal has players comparable to LSU?

I agree with you for the most part. I'm not making excuses at all, but Coastal Carolina has 30, 30!!!!, more home runs than the next closest opponent in NCAA. That's a staggering number. Those boys can hit and we all know what happens when you get a hot pitcher or two in a best of 3 series. It's disappointing to not see the SEC better represented at the CWS, but anything can happen in these short series.

In baseball , smaller schools don't have the talent gap with larger schools the way they do in football. Due to NCAA scholarship restrictions and practice and supervised training limits, a kid that has the tools to play mlb and just wants to develop, will many times go to juco or NAIA because he isn't hamstrung by all of the ncaa guidelines.

The best way to avoid post season embarrassment is to take the route my team took. Just avoid the post season. Again. But I think they are getting better.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

It's disappointing to not see the SEC better represented at the CWS, but anything can happen in these short series. My son played one year at Coastal Carolina and the rest at FSU. He said their coach, Gary Gilmore was phenomonal and always said that if he went to a well known D-l college, he would probably do an outstanding job.

I'm gonna pull for Coastal to win the whole thing. Would make for a great story. Gonna be tough though.
Since they knocked my Tigers out last weekend, I'm pulling for them as well.

All 3 teams that were top 8 national seeds are in the losers' bracket after the first round of games.

UF did have the team. The bats just got cold at the wrong time. I know it wasn't the pitching, but it's a hard pill to swallow that AJ Puck didn't see the mound in Omaha.
Still pulling for the Chanticleers.
