So I took the plunge and joined the Hoyt snob club by picking up a new Hoyt Defiant 30. I have to admit that the draw and the let off are really smooth compared to my PSE Decree. The only thing is I have to get used to the slower speed but I think I will learn to get past that.
With my Decree I shot Easton FMJ's topped with Rage Chisel tip. I loved the penetration that these arrows have but with the Hoyt I don't think I will get the same penetration with it shooting so much slower. What arrow would be best for penetration for a bow that's rated at 331 fps?

And that it won't break after every fifth shot.

Get over the speed, arrow weight is where it's at for penetration. What gpi are your fmj?

The FMJ's are 11.3 gpi, with the rage chisel tips my arrows are roughly 464 grains.

You won't have any penetration problems with that set up.

Yep, unless you want to be super cool like me, then switch to a 125g ramcat and nokturnal to get up to 500ish.

Stick with the fmj. I switched from Easton axis last year and don't regret it. I shooting to kill. Not for target competition. It will be plenty fast.

I don't like my fmj's at all, if I have the money, I'll probably switch to gold tip kinetics this year.

I love the fmj, great arrow that just destroys everything it hits.

They aren't very durable, I have no issue with how they perform hitting something, but I've had several snap while shooting a bag target, multiple develop bulges in the aluminum skin, etc. none of my arrows are ever slapped together either

Have broken several in a shoulder, but that's it. Been shooting them for years. Mine are the deep six diameter, that might make difference

That's what I'm shooting as well. I really liked them, until a few days into using them I noticed 3 of the 12 had small bulges. I was perplexed because I hadn't shot them at the same spot on the target. Then a few days later, I had a different one snap off right behind the insert, when it hit a bag target. Seems like that happened twice. Either way, I've had to buy about an extra dozen, through the season to keep enough arrows to practice and hunt with. Maybe there was just a bad batch last year, but u bought them from marks, Nichols, and Hoover tactical, all with the same results

I know a kid here that swapped to FMJs this year, I think I'll let him know to check those frequently...
