Recently put a Weatherby Vanguard S2 Stainless in 308 on layaway, curious to find out what loads my fellow hunters are using. Thanks in advance.

165 gr SP or 168 gr BTHP...killed a lot of deer DRT with both.

You'll see lots of Varget recipies and 165s.Cause it flat works.

My Ruger american loves the 150gr fusions.

150 gr Hornady SP in front of a healthy dose of IMR4064. Sub MOA I my Ruger77, your results may vary.

I use Federal power shock 150g usually. Occasionaly when hunting thick woods or a small green field I have used 180g core lokts.

Buy you some 165 grain Partitions or Accubonds for about $19 and load some up.

My favorite is 43 grains of IMR 3031 and a 150 grain bullet. I like the 150 Speer Hot Cor and the 150 Sierra Pro Hunter. I use the Speer the most it seems to be stouter, but the Sierra is usually a little more accurate. I have shot some beautiful groups with the Sierra, but I have put the Speer in the front right shoulder at 40 yards and found it under the hide of the left hindquarter.

My 308 really likes 165gr Barnes TSX pushed by 44.2 grains of Varget through a 20" barrel. Going to roll some 130gr Barnes TSX and try them soon.

165 sst over 46grs of varget yields me the most accurate load in my rifle and is deadly for sure.

I'm shooting 180 grain Fusions but I only got my .308 last January and I've only shot one deer with it. I hunt the thick. I was going to get the 165s but store didn't have em when I went.

I've killed a few dozen deer with Federal Fusions in 180 grain. They perform well, and at long ranges too.

I load a 150 Nosler ballistic tip and a 150 Accubond in mine. Really whatever bullets I have or can get a deal on. Both do outstanding, and I've got equal confidence in either. I killed a 130" 200+ live weight buck with the accubond and a 136" 11 point buck around 190-200 live weight with the ballistic tip. Both bullets went through both shoulders, and both deer went under 30 yards. I see no reason to change.

Disclaimer: For me, a deer hunting round is the most accurate one. Deer are fairly easy to kill if you pick your shots. I care more about accuracy/slipping a bullet where I want WITH WHITETAIL DEER than a bonded, monolithic, or high weight retention bullet design.

43.5 IMR4895 (hornady or Lapua case) behind 175 boat tail bullet has been very accurate in my m700. I love Varget loads I've tried with 168&175, but it's been difficult to consistently find varget for me. Found a slow load....41.7varget with 168vld (win cases) does well in multiple 308s. Only 2530fps. Killed every animal I've shot though.

Guys, I appreciate the information. I can't wait to get the Weatherby home and put it through its paces. I'm thinking about trying out the old school style 180 grain soft point round nose bullet for my Bankhead hunting.

I use 165g SST and 45g of Varget. Ruger M77.

For an off the shelf deer load, my eventual favorite was the Nosler Custom ammo loaded with the 165 grain Nosler Partition. High quality, accurate shell that was flat rough on the deer.
