I can't seem to find a damn thing about if it will be mandatory this season or not. I figured somebody here would know something. Thanks.

I don't know, but I'm sure it is. They've slowly desensitized us, and made us "thankful" it's not worse. "Hunting is a privilege" they tell us.

It's not mandatory yet. Of course it's not deer or turkey season either. Give it a few months. I'm sure they'll let us know if it's finalized. They're probably still playing politics with it.

I thought that was part of the deal with the extended season.

Let's make a deal..........can you say February deer hunting for the entire state? The Ainsworth's need more time to sell more high fence hunts.

Oh, can you also say , conflict of interest? mad

It was, or is. Northern half of the state gets the February 10 days but GameCheck becomes mandatory.

Nothing like politics and politicians determining wildlife matters. Idiots.

Conflicts of interest are only frowned upon in professions that people associate with virtue (at least in theory) like medicine, law, etc. Dang politicians make a career out of legalized bribery. Oh, sorry I meant campaign contributions.

Reckon those CAB members who voted in favor of Mr. Ainsworth's motion to extend season got a free hunt on Dream Ranch in February?

Probably so, 2dogs. If you have a captive population of deer, I'm not even sure why the state should set a season for you? It's no longer a shared resource.

I agree, let Dr. Moneybags shoot him a 300 incher in velvet in August, I don't care. Should be under the Ag department , because those animals have been reduced to livestock. But Ag doesn't want them.

That whole deal stinks! I reckon Chuck Sykes would sell his soul to get Game Check. Ol' Chuck will lie to yer face, lied to me. Not long after he took his job was also when LA was trying to get a February season. He told me face to face , "there will not be a February season in Jackson Co. "

CAB doesn't have final say so. Must be approved by the DCNR commissioner.

If he has done so, haven't seen any official announcement yet. Not saying he didn't but the CAB isn't final determining end-all.

Yep, it says "recommends.' It doesn't say "finalized."

The CAB is not the final say-so on these things. It proposes changes. The DCNR Commissioner or Legislative review must sign off on them depending on what's been proposed.

The public hears "the CAB did so and so!" and takes it at face value that it's done. It's not. When I first started attending meetings I thought same thing but was repeatedly informed that anything the CAB does is a proposal.

Are those proposals usually rubber-stamped by the commissioner? Yep. But not always, and the Board's proposals aren't automatic.

The DCNR would be smart to let the public know what's been finalized, if anything, instead of just "recommended" and "proposed" by the CAB.

It says on outdooralabama, march 26 meeting, Alabama’s Conservation Advisory Board made numerous changes to hunting and fishing regulations in the state. In a move sure to be popular with hunters, gun deer season will continuously run from Nov. 19, 2016, through Feb. 10, 2017, statewide – provided that the Game Check harvest reporting system makes it through the legislative review process.

Whatever. The Board is not the final say-so on regulations and laws.

Until the DCNR says it is finalized and approved, then it's not. The CAB is not the final arbiter of regulations and laws.

"And it says" if game check does not successfully make it throught the legislative review process the extended season will not go into effect
