There's gonna be around 300 tournament boats on Lay this Saturday. Morning blastoff is gonna be something. I wouldn't plan on going too far.

Don't get in a hurry and ask him what he wants to throw and let him try it. Let him reel your fish in, Be prepared to leave when he says he is bored. He is 6 don't make it a miserable day for him. Good luck and hope yall have a great day

Yeah. I agree about the long runs. He's got a spot right next to me and those 70+mph runs are reserved for solo or team tourneys. Still better than a calm day on guntersville. I had already made up my mind that he would be fishing for bream by the end of the day with small jigs if he's getting bored. He's stayed out all day with me a few times already. He's so stinkin pumped now, he might not sleep the night before. I'm gonna have him set up on three different rods and I'm gonna give him 5-6 different bags of worms and flukes to fish with. He's got a tackle box. Lol. I had to go buy him a shirt to match my favorite long sleeve. I have the 100spf spray and lotion. The cooler next to the live well will be filled with enough food and Gatorade to sink a mule. I've even downloaded three movies on his iPad. I have basically mentally made this out to be a fun day that's $150 more for the entry. If we tie on to a school or two then great. If he's absolutely done, we'll head out and get lunch and come back with crickets or red worms.

Him being 6 you should forget everything you've read on the inter webs about bass tourneys. You are not after a 30lb sack, just some fish. Here's what he needs to catch bass in any water, a 1/4 oz Slider jig with a wire hook & a 4"green pumpkin or watermelon seed Zoom Dead ringer texas rigged. Dip the tail in some chartrues spike-it. This little combo makes bass fishing easy, he wont even have to set the hook just reel them in.

It was the trip of a lifetime. I hardly fished. I caught a few small ones. He caught two docks, three trees, a few lay downs, the boat, and a nap. Made sure to do what he wanted and how he wanted to do it. Even if it meant top water in the middle of the lake and crankbaits in the grass. We were supposed to be in at 3:15 and I felt bad for him when he curled up under my console with his pillow and iPad and passed out. So, we came in an hour early. Drew was nice enough to let him go pick out some bags of worms and a few lures to keep him from going home empty handed. I personally can't wait to go back with him. He's a trooper and if we would have been on the fish, he would have drowned every soft plastic worm, craw, and lizard in the boat. Thanks for everyone's input.
