Fishing a jig like a worm is fine but to me they're a lot more effective flipping them in the thickest cover I can find. The most common problem I see folks doing is short hopping a jig along the bottom...pop the phucker up off the bottom a foot or more and let it settle back down. 99.9% of the bites are going to come on the fall. Also a lot of folks miss a bunch of fish because they don't even realize a bass has bit the jig and they pull it out of their mouth or the bass spits it out and they never knew the fish was there. You don't feel the tap like you do with a worm so watch the line.

You need to come up and fish with Riverrat and me one day.

I know a guy who makes jigs and probably could get one or two. wink

Some jigs are better than others. Some trailers are better than others.

But it ain't necessarily the jig or the trailer.

It's the location, the patience, being able to feel what's down there and tell the difference between a stick and a bite and a silty bottom and a hard bottom and that mushy feeling and then ripping the hook through the friggin' fish's brain.

Give me a cheap jig with a chunk or a $5 fancypants jig with a fancypants chunk ... either one pitched by a treetop, stump, nasty-ass wad of hydrilfoilpads or on a hard clay bottom will catch a fish.

Sounds like a lil' fishing trip is in order.

That ol' coot makes a purty good jig, IMO.

I'll be down your way Monday, or coming back from B'ham, if you want to toss a line in the water.

I like a jig too. I fish mine like a worm or swim it over the grass. I got different brands, but I have been using tightlines and choo choos lately. I can't find a good one that comes through the grass like I want it to, but I'm still experimenting. wink When the grass gets matted up, I intend on learning to pitch and flip one better. Summer has always been tough for me.

They ain't heavy enough for the type fishing I'm doing now. wink But I will give them a try at a later date.

Next to a RiverRat custom jig wink You can't beat a tightline jig. Well worth the money.

After a beverage or ten and the production pot heats up the first run of the RiverRat 1 1/2 oz. Matbuster jig is about to be poured.

I think the TLJ man only goes to 1 1/4 on his jigs.

I have some 2-ounce I bought nine years ago in Florida. Big suckers. They look like a small plum.

I aint sure if any of yall have tried these but they are the best I have ever used. I have there jigs and spinners and love them. HE has some of the best color combos I have found. I use the extreme bluegill and the fogy green and kill with them. Plus the owner of the site is a member of ultimatebass.com and will answer any question you have on the forum.

Which one do you like: grass jig or wood jig? Don't look like there's much difference between the two.....

I like the wood jig for fishing wood and I like the grass jig for fishing grass. laugh

Really the grass jig has got a more streamline head.

I like the BassStalker jigs too. They have a "wood" version and a "grass" version. I use their grass version 99% of the time because it's less prone to hang ups.

There doesn't appear to be too much difference b/t the two. So I figured the grass jig would be the go to.

The Woodthumper head is a smidge more squared off than the streamlined Grass Jig.

The Woodthumper is good for swimming w/ a Baby Paca Craw or Strike King Rage Tail. Or, so I've been told.
