We've fun fished a lot together but he's wanting to get into my hobby. So, there's a tourney on lay Saturday that has perks for father son teams. I need multiple kid friendly lures at hand if he gets tired of weedless top waters. I will likely fish grass, docks, and points if the current gets up. Thought about a slip bobber with a light shaky head but I'm afraid to throw a crankbait or swim jig on there. Any ideas?

Yeah he did that a lot with crappie last time. We can't use live bait. I will have to get him on some deep fish at some point in the day. Toughest part to me is getting him set up to throw everything on a few zebcos. He's not good enough for a spinning set up and I'm not putting a $500 bait casting setup in his hands. I will have enough snacks and backup batteries for his iPad if he gets bored. Just want him to fish as much as possible and that's gonna get hard when the topwater bite slows

Spinning rod or Zebco 33, shakey head, different colored worms. The latter will allow him to make his own decision about changing colors, at your gentle suggestion, and help him feel like he's contributing. Probably will nail a few spots on 'em, too.

possibly a 1/4 oz spinnerbait or chatterbait? If fish are biting topwater, give him a buzzbait or a popper and let him have a ball. At 6, I was throwing these with my dad. A popper was my morning bait, then a small spinnerbait when that bite slowed down. When the sun got up good, he would tie on a shaky head to throw around points or boat docks. He just told me to reel is as slow as i could and stop it sometimes. I caught a ton of fish having NO idea what i was doing. He also tied me on a white or black and blue 1/4 oz jig with a trailer that had a lot of action. I would cast and reel, but i caught a bunch doing that too. Heck, I still do this and catch them, what am i talking about LOL
depending on how big he is and how excited he is, he may or may not get fatigued and bored. If he catches one early, itll be game on for a few hours anyway. Pillows are never a bad option as well....I couldnt tell you how many naps I had in the bottom of dads boat

That would be the plan had he not asked to fish one with me.

I had plans on letting him throw a nose rigged trick worm early and maybe a small spinner. I don't think he's gonna have enough know how to get a good hookset so if I can put a reaction bait on for the deeper setups, like a fire tiger shad rap, he will be able to cast it out and at least meet them half way.

Rig him up a drop shot for those deep bass. A zebco ought to be able to handle that and it's simple to fish. Just drop it down and give it some wiggle.

I agree with the spinner. Tie a larger rooster tail on. He will be able to cast it and the larger weight should have no problems activating the spinner on a Zebco. He will catch all species of fish and have a good time. May even put some keepers in the boat.

I would go the weedless worm route... Or if you want him to catch fish, tie a beetle spin on that Zebco and he can catch bass and bream with it.
