I don't know... I might get into trouble here, but I thought it would be an interesting topic with so many Biblical scholars on the forum...

I have often wondered about many stories in the Bible, I have read and prayed and studied for most of my life off and on depending on my interest at the time, and there are a lot of interesting stories in the Bible some of which are quite difficult to wrap your head around. I thought this would be a good thread for people to post stories they don't understand and have the folks on the forum who are more Biblically astute explain things...

For instance:

The story of Noah and the Ark... Do you think that the entire world was flooded top to bottom? Like Kevin Costner in Waterworld? Or do you think it was a regional mass flooding like when the isthmus between Greece and Turkey was breached by the Mediterranean ocean flooding the Black Sea? Perhaps that area was the "known" world to those people at the time...

Irish I don't know if the Flood story is true for sure but i do believe it, when you look at other civilizations and religions from around the world back then they all have a flood story so i would say it was world wide and caused by the last ice age melting off..

This is true. I believe it too. There are many stories of a flood from many different cultures. If these other cultures were also around for the flood, how did they survive? Wasn't Noah and his family the only ones? You see where this goes?

The Earth is only 6000 years old or whatever because that's what the "begats" add up to. Nahhhhh.

I believe every single word of what the Bible says. The inerrant and infallible word of God, written by man, inspired by God.

Yes I see.... I don't think that the whole world was covered in water just that almost all civilizations were on the coasts around the world so when the glaciers melted and the water rose 300-400 feet and covered them up..

there is a lot of science to back up a world wide flood. Too much to be refuted. Christian Scientists explain it better than I can. Google it.

The 6000 yr thing is mans interpretation. I don't believe it matters how long. The bible tells the historical relationship of man with God and how it evolved to the present. The new statement states the most important thing is to have no other God but Jehovah and this is just as important love your neighbor as yourself. Everyone is our neighbor. It goes on to say if man gets nothing else beyond the acceptance of God's sacrifice and loves his neighbor everything else falls into place.

They are building a creation museum in OHIO. Currently open. They have a life size ARK and are working on many other biblical attractions. The people that own Hobby Lobby will be opening a bible museum in DC within the next few years.

I believe the stories in the bible. I think it takes faith to believe the bible. Just like it takes faith to believe in Jesus.
Just like it takes faith to believe in evolution. We all have a measure of faith and we choose where we apply it.

No the world did NOT flood and kill everyone.

With regular math, not common core, explain:
How did Noah's 3 boys and their wife repopulate the WORLD; & to the point that there were wars and different races of people just ~200yrs later.

Then explain which of his kids became:
American Indians
Aborigines
Eskimos
Incas
Japanese
Chinese

Please further explain. There is Chinese writings that date back to before the flood. EVERYONE DIED, then there was Chinese writing after the flood. Which of Noah's kids was fluent in Chinese?

How many people died in the flood? Noah was only ~8-9 generations after Adam & Eve. Explain that population grown dynamic that creates millions of people in just ~8 generations starting from 2. Adam and Eve only had ~3 kids (not sure of this). They were all boys, so explain that asexual reproduction process as well.

It does take faith... One of my favorite analogies from my childhood friend and mentor, Snarkley Mulrose, was: "I can 'believe' that jet airliner can fly me up in the air and land me safely. 'Faith' is getting on the plane and taking off..."

The races has always been a head scratcher on the flooding story.

And rounding up rattlesnakes and moccasins and copperheads and getting them on a boat. Devine intervention could help with the animals, but still doesn't explain races.

How did shark remains end up in Kansas? Explain dinosaurs! 999 trillion years old? How do we know that's right? God could have put every fossil here to make us question faith. He could have put the oil in the ground when he made the earth. It may not have been made by dead animals and plants. Everything is too perfect just to have happened by chance. The sun moon earth all in perfect rotation? Just by chance? Makes more sense it was created that way.

Why couldn't the races have been Devine intervention?

Here is a joke for you

There is a group of genetic scientists and they tell God that, while they appreciate all the things he has done that they can create and mutate and cross-engineer all species now and they dont need him anymore. God sighs and says "Well lets have one last test" and with that he reaches down into the earth and grabs a handful of dirt and drops it onto the ground and POOF an entirely new animal appears. It is an animal like nothing before. The scientists smile at each other and one starts digging in the dirt and God replies "Stop, get your own dirt"

I always liked that joke. And something else, everything that science understands has a beginning and an end. If you believe in the big bang theory then what caused the initial expansion? And if there was nothing before, how did something get created out of nothing. If there was something there before the big bang, then what created that? And what created the thing that created that, and on, and on....

I guess the only explanation for the big bang theory is that God said BANG and everything was created.
