I bought an old Troybilt horse but I'm handy with tools. I have not had to do anything but adjust the drive belt in two seasons and I till a little less than 1/5 acre. My only complaint is it doesn't go as deep as I would like on the first two or three passes.
I have two neighbors with new troybilt ponies and they're an even split, one loves his and the other hates his.

What ever it is make sure it is a rear tine, I have a troybilt horse also and it is a beast the motor was locked up on it when I got it so i bought a 6.5 hp motor from harbor freight for $89.. Any tiller should last a long time as you only use it once or twice a year. if taken care of.

I have two neighbors with new troybilt ponies and they're an even split, one loves his and the other hates his. This post put me in mind of the old Wheel Horse brand, so I looked it up and found that I had 2 misconceptions about that old company...first of all, I thought the brand had been defunct since way back in the late 60's or early 70's, and secondly, I had always thought of it as a "Western Auto" store brand. Actually, it was sold to Toro, then to AMC, before being discontinued, and they were produced until 2007! Learn something new everyday.

Buy used...let someone else take the depreciation hit. Look in Craigslist.
If you closer, I'd just come till it for you!

That would be awesome if I lived closer, and I actually just moved further...from Huntsville to Mulberry TN. Buy used...let someone else take the depreciation hit. Look in Craigslist.
If you closer, I'd just come till it for you!

If you buy a GOOD tiller new it is going to cost you,Tractor supply should have them on sale about now if you want a new one but I would look for a used one.. you can find them for around $500 or so used most of the time.

I owned a Sears brand front tine for several years, always took it slow and easy. Loaned it out and it came back dead. I now use a 4-stroke Honda Mantis for my raised bed and a tractor rotary tiller for the garden. If you are young and healthy, don't shy away from a front tine tiller, in fact, they are kinda fun and a whole lot cheaper than a rear tine.

I have a Troybilt Bronco. It's about 15 years old but still runs like a top. It sat for prob 6 years at my parents and had forgotten about it. One day I saw it in their garage and asked about it. They said take it if I'd use it.
I was certain I would have to have the carb built. I filled it with gas and was surprised when it cranked on the 3rd pull. I think it's a 20" wide tine. That's as wide as I would get.

There is or was a Troybilt Horse for sale on Tndeer.com
I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
