Has he ever cut grass? Hook him up with a grass cutting crew here in town. Lots of them are always looking for dependable help. Especially ones that can speak English.

If he is interested, tell him to look at DR Horton. IDK if they will judge by his age, but if he is a hard worker he can get a job as a builder assistant, then move to a superintendent within 2 years. As quickly as 6 months sometimes. Geesh, remind me to never buy a DR Horton home if a 20 yr old can be superintendent. BigAl do either of the truck stops down there at the 100 or 104 have truck washes? My 17 yr old works at one and makes $13 hr.

A LOT of the big box home builders are not much more than schedulers now. They have set dates to hit, they schedule subs to complete the work, Walk the house each evening and if the work is done, they get a check. This isn't all big builders, but there are a lot like this. It blows my mind.

Car cleaning places are booming,it's fast paced hard work..I'm sure something would be available around Tuscaloosa.I bet the Mercedes plant has a temp service too,a few months on a assembly line will have him in college/trade school in no time. I have been out here many years...I don't want him working for the temp services here...we call them the new world order..

Check out Hardin construction off toll bridge road in Tuscaloosa. I worked for him for about 8 years and he will put young kids to work around the shop washing trucks or whatever needs to be done and helping out on his farm. After time he will start sending them out on jobs where they can get more experience. New one young kid during my time that he done this with now the young man has a job at Nucor making good money.
If you've got them by the balls their hearts and minds will follow.

He needs to go to college. That's the lie that has been sold to a generation of kids that are graduating from college with a pile of debt and very few job opportunities. The ones who do get the jobs are getting jobs that don't pay what they once did. College is not for everyone. Many kids are beginning to go to trade school and get certified in various fields (often in 1 yr) for 4-6 thousand dollars who come out with plenty of good paying job offers. I made the case on here a while back in another thread that if you go that route and invest your money wisely over the same period of time that the others kids are going in debt while in college, then you would be way ahead in most cases because of the power of compounding money. One is working for you with your early investments and the other is working against you in debt related interest... In the thread below I made the comparison between going to college to be a dentist verses a kid who goes to trade school for a year to be a welder. If the welder is willing to make the same level of sacrifice that the dental student is going to have to make for around 8-10 years then the dentist would most likely never catch him, even once he starts making the big money. Most of you will laugh at this because it's not what we are taught all our lives, but it is absolutely real because of the time value of money. This isn't pie in the sky, the scenario's that I used were based on real and personal experience on the investment side and with my son's best friend who is making more money than I used in this scenario as a welder... http://www.aldeer.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1563964&page=6
