Was talking scent control with buddy who shoots more deer than me. He doesn't really go to huge pains with his clothes. Washes em in unscented detergent and keeps in scent lock bag. But he said "I am anal about my boots. I keep em in box behind seat of truck and only wear em in woods.' If he gets in truck to move it across road, he takes his boots off. Is this a key for some of y'all too? Will a rubber bottom pac be as effective as an all rubber boot in this regard?

I'm the same way. My boots go on when start walking to the stand and come off before getting in the truck or on the 4 wheeler when I come out.

Very smart. I am the same way about my boots and have been using elimitrax over my boots for many years when walking to/from stand. Don't even think you can buy them anymore, which is a shame, they are VERY effective at eliminating your ground scent trail. Most hunters don't pay enough attention to the scent trail you leave when walking, thinking that just wearing rubber boots sprayed with some magic "scent killer" spray will be enough. It isn't, especially after you wear the boots in the truck driving to/from hunting spot. You would be amazed how much better your hunting can be when you truly employ low-impact tactics.

I'm the same. My boots stay outside on the porch during hunting season. I change all clothes and shoes in the woods before and after each hunt. Everything, including back pack, stays in scent lok storage bags.

This is what has worked for me and my son; Our clothes stay in a plastic container with a scent wafer, our boots we just keep in the closet. When we get to our destination we spray everything, every inch of clothing, boots and gear, very liberally. Had a doe down wind 6ft from my stand feeding on acorns for 5 minutes, and another one 10 yds just to give a few instances of this past season.

I too only wear my boots when hunting, never inside truck. I keep them in a rubbermaid plastic bin. I dont waste money on scent loc bags. I use large ZIPLOC bags instead and put an earth scent wafer or two inside.

Care needs to be taken for boot inide too ! In South Alabama we often sweat during the season. Once I climbed a tree where I could also see the trail I walked in on. I saw 4 does cross my trail one morning. The older does turned a flip , yes they smelled my boots evenafter the precautions I took.Every step I took air from inside the boot was forced out. Boots need to be tight at top to prevent this. One of the better hunters on this site wears chest waders when he scouts and checks his cameras for just this reason. Since that day i fill my bootswith baking soda every week or so and then empty them ,during hotweather.

I have done this for over 50 years. Started doing it because my boots were usually so dirty I didn't want that mess in the truck cab.
