I decided to post this after reading the yard fixing thread.

I know a lot of you guys are city folks. In an effort to increase the knowledge base of you city folks I know at times a few of us have tried to share some hillbilly knowledge with you guys.

We covered "ground spewing" a year or so ago.

Tonight lets cover the subject of putting dirt around a post hole.

Some of you may not be aware of the effect of the moon phase on putting posts in the ground. There are times that you can dig a post hole, put a post in the hole and barely have enough dirt to fill in around the post. Then there are times you can dig a post hole, put the post in and have quite a pile of dirt left over once the dirt has been put back around the post.

Now some of you may think this has something to do with how tightly the dirt is packed around the post, but you'd be wrong.

It's all about the moon phase. I wish I knew which phase caused which event but I don't. Some of you may not believe me and that's okay, but I just told you the absolute truth. I don't make these rules, I just live by them.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

This thread needs a 'speerment. Fur, I nominate you to dig and take pictures over the next 28 days, once a week, and post pictures of each hole dug. Holes are to be 24" deep and are to be dug in your 'falfa field. Each hole will be dug exactly 36" apart and are to be dug on the new, waning crescent, full and waxing crescent. You up for it?

See, some of us city slickers just can't understand these phenomenons without pit-chers. laugh

It's called and earth tide. The sun and the moon's gravitational fields have an effect on how tightly the dirt is packed and where the moisture is held in the dirt.

You know dang good and well you can't come on a redneck forum and post redneck fact without having redneck proof to back it up. (Even if said redneck proof is total made up horses&#%) you still got to tell it like you KNOW what causes it. Come on Fur!

The M O O N causes it. Dad gum I already said that, I just don't know how it works.

My wife causes me to do things from time to time and I don't know how she works either. Same principle.

The moon’s monthly cycle affects how well a fence post will stay in the ground. The most suitable time for driving and setting fence posts is when the moon is waning. Earth days are the most favorable – Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn.
Avoid the water sign Cancer. Posts will loosen and rot more quickly if set in that sign.
Fence posts can also be set on the day of the new moon.
With correct lunar timing a well set fence or gate post will stay in the ground. It will not shift nor heave and the posts will remain rock-solid even after 30 or 40 years.

Copied and pasted from some Granny Miller or something like that, web site.

Yes this is very true. I set poles just about every day for the past 12 years. I see dirt come and go like the wind.

Lol
Let me help you.

Its cause if you fill it up when the moon is overhead the gravity from the moon keeps it pulled up but if you wait till the moon is underfoot then you can pack more in it cause the moon is pulling it down tight.
See that's pure horsesh&% but at least it has redneck logic built in to it smile
Then again hell maybe im right ????
