There were so many good cereals I enjoyed eating as a kid. Now I get a sugar crash if I eat them and I just avoid them because of it. Yesterday I was standing in the grocery store looking at Captain Crunch debating if the taste was worth the shredded roof the the mouth and the sugar crash. I decided to just walk away. 
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.
