From what I was told last year about my concern over corn put out on the neighbors land during turkey season, you won't get a ticket for hunting your property as long as the corn is on someone else's property. Here's the solution. You put corn out on a spot near the property line for your neighbor to hunt and have him put a pile out on his side a ways from yours on the line for you to have a spot to hunt. Placement should be for deer to be approaching his corn from your side and vice-versa. Now you are legally hunting a corn pile. I wonder how many people do that?

X3. Setup on a trail going to his property. I killed one about a month ago that had whole kernel corn in his esophagus. I haven't had any corn on my property anywhere in the previous month. Deer gotta' eat.

Wait. You mean to tell me that if my neighbor puts corn out on the property line I can't hunt mine? So, if he sprinkled corn all the way around the border of my 40 acres he would reduce my hunting rights to only 31 acres? Or if I only had 20 acres and he did the same I would only be able to hunt 6 acres legally?

I call BS and would file a hunting harassment charge. Same for the one in the picture above.

Wrong. What we are saying is that you CAN hunt a corn pile as long as you are across the property line.

So are you trying to say as long as it's on his land, you can hunt anywhere on your land in regards to deer traveling to the pile on his land?

Sure, as long as everyone is more than 100 yards away but then what's the point of doing it on the property line...

One afternoon last year when I got home from work and decided to ride my buggy over to my south property line and put out some corn and a camera. That area always produces some good action during rut, but I never hunting until then.

When I drove up I looked around a little bit for a good spot and found a pile of corn already there. Then I saw a ladder stand (on the neighbors land) but about 5 yards from the fence and looking straight at the pile of corn on my land. After doing a little scouting I hear some guys walking through the woods. It was my neighbors (they were friends of the owner who doesn't hunt and they supposedly had permission to hunt there). The guy was nice enough and apologized for the corn and the stand. He said they didn't know anyone hunted over there on my land. The next week I went back and his stand was gone, and I haven't seen it since.

Wrong. What we are saying is that you CAN hunt a corn pile as long as you are across the property line.

Also, this is incorrect and you can have adjoining land owners notified/checked/ticketed by the law for this as it does effectively take out land you can hunt. How is the warden to know it wasn't you that put it 20 yards over the line yet it's still only 60 yards from you in your stand? And who's the warden to believe, you or the other land owner?

If you're within 100 yards of a corn pile regardless of lines, there is a chance you could get the ticket...

As for the OP, I'd just scout, set up 100+ yards back and watch and see what passes through...no need in ruining what may very well be a "free" feed spot that you never have to restock yet can intercept the game going to it (unless you actually see them illegally hunting it)

I see Reb's Point. I don't remember it defined in the hunting regs. that way. I only recall it stating over 100 yds. and not within the line of sight.

Fellas.....this rule is clear and straightforward. I don't understand all the fuss. grin

Is there any chance of getting this stoopid rule fixed this year? Make it legal or illegal and be done with it.

Ive heard of a neighbor having a feeder on the property line and his neighbor having a tree stand just on the other side. Guy called the GW and the GW made his neighbor move his stand over 100 yards from the feeder that wasn't even on his property

Screw that. I'm like Fred, I'd take that and go to court. Stupid, vague "baiting" regulations ... either make it legal or end it all. Vague discretion is BS.

COME & GET IT!!!!!!

Heard a true story one time from a hunter I know -- he was hunting one year & deer were ZOOMING FULL SPEED past him, on a really good spot he had found the year before... I mean, he'd spot a deer & BA-ZAAM, before he could even lift his gun, the deer would fly past him, GONE!! Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer & he got down outta his tree & went in the direction of the deer, right to the neighbor's property -- and lo & behold, he found his answer -- A MOUND OF CORN!! He could see where the DUMP TRUCKS had unloaded the stuff, and he said the deer had circled the mound so much, they'd worn RUTS around the mound... This has been many years ago...

If it's not corn it will be something else. Deer gotta' eat. "Bait" is an ambiguous term.
