Well yesterday morning I was hunting a decent size tract on the mountain. It's mainly rock with hardwoods, but this place has been covered up with active deer sign; scrapes, rubs, scat, and the most tore up trails I've ever hunted. Anyways bucks have been chasing all over this property but yesterday morning my girlfriend hunting a ladderstand shot at a buck so I decided to ease down towards her way as I get about 50 yards down the four wheeler trail she texts me saying she missed and not to come her way so I obliged and started walking towards camp when I hear something coming down the mountain I look up and its a nice basket rack buck coming straight down the bluff sliding straight towards me he gets 40 yards from me and turns broadside going away from I bleated with my mouth he stopped I squeezed the trigger and he turns down quartering at me the bullet hits him low below the shoulder. I knew he was hit good but he ran fast and hard down the mountain. So I found a spot I know he crossed and found some good blood. The blood trail went 50 yards and lets up gets really spotty so I marked last blood and head to the cabin to give him time if he wasn't hit good. Waited about almost an hour and by this time the girlfriend and I rendezvous and she helps me pick the trail up and I mean the blood trail was not easy to follow it would be a tiny drop for every 5-10 yards then nothing for 20 yards. We came to a spot that was really open couldn't find any more sign so I told her to stay at last blood as I preceding looking down the benches just trying to see a white belly but turned up with nothing. She met up with me and I told her I must've made a bad shot and we headed back up towards the four wheeler trail. As we walked up we shifted left from where we were and I looked down and found big splotch of blood so we got back on the trail and started finding good blood every few feet. I was excited because it was getting heavy and heavier. I look up and there he is dead laying 150 yards from where I shot him. The reason the blood trail was spotty and faint was do to hitting him quartering to me there was a wad of intestines bout the size of a baseball and the best guess I can make is it wasn't letting him bleed externally. Got him loaded up and back to camp where I hung him up and gutted him which proved my theory of the "gut plug" he was all bleed out internally! Don't give up if you have a faint blood trail! Great end to a great weekend my buddy killed a good six and the girlfriend killed a doe!

Good job on the find and not giving up.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

I had a wild scenario this weekend as well finding a buck.
Could not have scripted it.
