Hunting Bankhead National Forest this morning. Set up in some white oaks the deer where hitting hard at the end of October. I didn't know if any deer was still in here or not, but as I was waking in I noticed they are raking back the leaves to find acorns and deer chit everywhere. I quit hunting this area due to gun hunters and the pressure they was putting on them in November. Nobody hunts out here in January, especially on cold mornings, so now I got it all to myself. Good luck to everyone on this awesome morning.
It is hard to kill or catch anything sitting on the couch!

Getting an afternoon sit going...the woods are full of fresh scrapes and my cameras tell me its about to get right. Quiet as a mouse this first hour. I hope to get some late afternoon action.

Can't sleep tonight. I shot a good buck this afternoon. He was quartering away pretty hard. My arrow has good blood on it but smells like gut. It is very thick in the planted pines where he went. I trialed him about 125 yds and heard him cough up ahead of me. I shined my light and could see his eyes glowing about 15 yds ahead. I quickly cut the light off and backed out. I know he will be laying there in the morning if I just give him time but it sure is hard to be patient.
