I like the way jsh1904 thinks, if your hunting lower delta nothing less than a bazooka.

I went to Black Warrior this past Friday to really scout deer, but had my Remington 5mil tagging along on a "squirrel hunt" to hope I saw a piggy. Saw deer and squirrels, but no piggies.

Have any of you guys shot .17 WSM? I'm wondering if that would be better for hogs than .22WMR?

I'm stuck hunting WMA's as well, at the moment and am limited to the .22 rimfire restriction..

If .22lr use the fastest solids your rifle will shoot well. If 22wmr, I use fmj but I almost always shoot them in the head. A sp may be a better option if you can't get a head shot. Penetration is usually the limiting factor on any hog past about 100 lbs. The small ones will fall to good shot placement with about anything but the big ones won't. I shot the largest sow I have ever seen in the woods in early October with a cci mini-mag solid in the head at 52 yards and she didn't even flinch - just gathered her sounder up and went back in the nasty stuff. She had to have been 400+ but no one will probably believe me.

I do have pics of her tracks though with my phone case for a frame of reference. I tracked her bunch for well over a mile looking for blood and hoping to ease back up on her.

Just hunt the forest land. You can use what you want year round and there's plenty of hogs and land.
