Deer usually bed up because there is so much noise and movement and it renders their nose worthless. I like it to be raining and I take a shotgun and stalk thru young thick pines.

Thomas Jefferson. The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Life is too short to only hunt and fish on weekends!

If being a dumbass was fatal some of you would be on your death bed!

Used to bag it when really windy, or half-ass stalk hunt with little expectation. However, few weeks ago, hunted a cold morning (28 deg) and had a dog run a buck (doesnt count), had a doe cross logging rd ~70 yds directly downwind, and then a yearling under me I could spit on, also directly downwind. Neither of the downwind deer had a clue I was there... In the future I will not hesitate to hunt as normal, and watch my downwind much more closely.

Missed a big one last year in winds so high the shooting house was rocking. I knew I missed when I shot because right as a pulled the trigger a gust sent the shooting house swaying.

If the rut is on you better be in the woods on windy days.

deer move alot more than folks think on windy days, good time to hunt your more visible areas, they rely more on there sight with high winds.look for sheltered draws that gets them out of that wind.

I would rather be turkey hunting

10-20 is the best! Killed two of my oldest bucks with the wind howling. They move and can't hear you. Typically with a high wind it is from one direction which is important.

Echo winters and Ben here. I've sure killed some hosses on the windiest days of the year. High wind from the NNW right behind a front 20 mph + have been really high success on big bucks near thick cover.

I've killed 3 nice 8 points when it was windy enough it that the tree was swaying to the point that it was hard to stay on target. Two of them were directly down wind.

I like hunting in the wind, from what I've seen it dilutes our scent very well. I tell my son it blows the stink away.

Not a south wind at all and this heat we have now

If you haven't read his book ( & its probably the only whole one I've read since school) look up Dr. Bob Sheppard, one of the most successful whitetail hunters in Alabama!

don't think the wind bothers the deer that much. The biggest deer I ever saw was in a 20mph wind.

I love to hunt on windy days especially bowhunt because you can get by with more sound and movement undetected. I also believe that your scent is not as much of a issue on windy days as it is on a good calm day.

Best deer ever was on a 70 degree day at 2:00 clock with a 30 mph south wind during the rut. He was the fourth buck that cruised thru that bench that day.

I've had generally good success on windy days. I like to hunt travel corridors and I find I see lots of deer movement through these areas during high wind. Imagine if you are a deer. They'd probably prefer to lay down and relax, but the wind takes away their advantage of their ears, so they are forced to stay on the move pretty regularly. High winds also allows bucks to scent check larger areas than usual.

And like hayman said you can get away with a lot of movement on a windy day too. I stand up and keep my head on a swivel and eyes peeled looking for brown bodies slipping through.

Heavy winds is terrible hunting, imo. Deer don't seem to move in high winds. And I'm not climbing a tree and swaying back and forth for 3- 4 hours.
