I've had one guy in Brent come in burger joint and tell me that the bucks are chasing on NF in Bibb and perry county. Today I overheard a guy in hunting store located in Calera that 7 deer were killed in pea ridge that were chasing.

I've lived and hunted Shelby and Bibb county (among others) all my life and I've never seen the rutt until around Christmas or the full moon in December for Shelby and Bibb Co. . What say ye?

I've hunted the NF south of Brent for years and the earliest I've seen a buck chasing a doe was Christmas eve.

I saw a 2 1/2 year old 7 point get a doe out of her bed on the 19th of November, but he wasn't chasing her. This was on Oakmulgee WMA, at the most I would say the young bucks are staying close to the does but not chasing yet.

Last week I had two doe fawns come running in on me like something was chasing them. I grabbed my bow got ready and was expecting to see a coyote. It ended up being a spike chasing them and he actually tried to mount one of them. This was in dallas county. Ive never seen that this early before. Maybe he was just trying to get an early start before the big boys run him off.

I say the bucks are ready from the time they shed velvet till they cast their antlers in spring, but the does aren't. Just because we're seeing a few scrapes and 1 and 2 year olds chasing doesn't mean the peek breeding period has changed. Biologists say peek breeding will not make a huge shift from one year to the next.I believe it. I seen some crazy things happen during rut of my 40 plus years of chasing deer up in the mountains of Northeast Bama. But every year, same time bout the 3rd week of July , the fawns hit the ground.

deer in north Bibb Co and over to McCalla area rut early. I see fawns in June from that area.

They are getting ready now in the forest. Bunch of fresh rubs and scrapes.
