Brent gave me this recipe for a roast and its awesome.
Vension roast (Crock Pot size)
2 cans cream of mushroom soup.
1 packet of Lipton onion soup mix.
Southern Flavor-season to taste.
Add roast, mushroom soup and Lipton onion soup mix to venison roast. Season to taste with Southern Flavor then add taters, carrots and onions to crockpot and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Cook mash taters to top with the roast and gravy. This is some good stuff. You can thank me and Brent later. grin

I cooked a neck roast today with this basic concept and all was good. I had to change the 2 cream of mushroom to one can each of cream of celery and cream of mushroom cause that is what I had in the pantry. Also, I used Lipton's Beefy Onion Soup mix.

I added a spoonful of flour to the pot to thicken the gravy. That way it will stick to your ribs.

I always had a hard time with it drying out. I may try another one. With no fat in a deer roast any secret to making it fall apart like a beef roast?

Do you guys brown your roast in a skillet before putting it in the CrockPot or just throw it in?

Ned I've never had a problem with it drying out. You might add a couple of cans of water to it. If you cook it in the crock pot for 8 to 10 hours it will fall apart like a beef roast.

I never brown the roast. I simply put the roast in the crock pot add soup and dry soup mix then add taters onions and carrots and turn it on low and forget about it.

Sounds good. I will try it maybe this weekend. I may have cooked the last one too fast.

I did the same as directed and it fell apart and was great. I added one cup of water threw everything in and ate it at about 9 hours.

I de-boned a front shoulder and threw everything in.

I know this is an old post, but the search led me to it the other day.

Tried my first crock pot deer roast with a portion of one of the hindquarters the other day, and it was great! Meat fell apart and tasted great. I did add about a can of water because I had to put it on around 5am for that nights dinner.

I highly recommend it.

Even had a little for leftovers last night

I like to brown the roast.
I cooked one last week in the pressure cooker. I added about a cup of red wine and cooked for about hour or so. Good groceries right there.

Awesome. Dustin just answered a question that was asked almost 5 years ago. I wonder if Clem has been checking this thread daily, just waiting on someone to answer.
