Anyine know what these mean? Are they going to cut the timber? These are all on a stand of big mature pines

That's what it sounds like to me.

Pole timber is just that, trees that will become power poles, transmission line poles, ect.

Yep. Usually the number of slashes indicate the length of the pole.

That's good to know. Does that mean it will be a select cut or are those just special ones?

and I did notice that some trees had 2 lines while others had 3 or 4. So I'd imagine you are correct

Yep they fixing to cut. The place I normally hunt over there was marked several years before they cut though. They bought high where I was and the market dropped after so they sat on it till they had to cut. That's what the logger told me anyway.

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

Coukd be either. They just usually mark the poles and try to cut and haul them at one time, so they don't get sold with the regular stuff.

When marking poles one slash is a 30', two is a 35', 3 is a 40', on up to 55' is how we use to mark them. After that you try to write 65' or what ever the pole is. Tallest pole I've ever seen down here was a 70' back about 30 years ago. T.R. Miller in Brewton use to have a special extension trailer you could borrow to pull the over length poles.
