This is a pic I took this day three years ago (11/24/2012). It's a scrape literally bigger than your truck. This is at the 4-way of two old dim roadbeds, that's a big cutover in the background. Every pine sapling within 25 yards is rubbed, mangled, broken off. There are dozens of tracks in that scrape, several piles of poop, and multiple wet spots. Smelled like a goat pen. Ever seen anything like that?? This is in Calhoun Co AL. I walked in here blind at lunch that day, set up right back there on that old cut, killed a 120" ten point right at dark that evening. To your left is a big hardwood ridge, that deer was coming off that ridge headed down that roadbed towards this scrape.

I found one like that in Troy area. From the tracks it appeared they were sparring in it too. Deep tracks and sliding tracks that showed one being pushed backwards.

Old guy who kinda showed me the Deer Hunting ropes told me about a place just like this one time. He said he questioned an old man who was a renowned hunter about it. They said it was where at least 2, possibly more, older age class bucks territories met. They believed it was like a "corner post" of where multiple properties met. I cant speak to that for sure but it made enough sense to me that I always remembered it. I only found 1 place that was even similar and killed a good 8pt on it checking the scrape. Thats a cool find for sure.

I'm not a "topo map" kind of guy, but I do have a topo map of this whole property, and if you look exactly where this scrape is, it's dead center of an obvious natural funnel. It's like the epicenter of every large-scale geographic feature around it.

I had one of these last year too. I never saw a deer over it during the daytime.

Primary scrape. Most times they show up the same place year after year. It'll be the happening place, AKA the best singles bar in town. You find one of these with doe beds and does hanging around you're in business . Just don't screw it up. Gota hunt them when they're hot, don't fall in love with them. When they go cold, move on, the bucks have.

Having a 100ac bedding area 50 yards away don't hurt! LOL
