Like most things, there are good and bad officers. Just like there are good and bad burger joints, sporting good stores, gas stations, etc. People only usually make comments regarding the bad experiences, not the good ones. I realize that this is a bit of a stretch in logic being that you get to choose which places you spend your money and don't usually get to choose which cop whips your ass, but the principle is the same.
It's really no where near the same. A bad burger joint or gas station doesn't have the power to forever alter your life or trample your constitutional rights. There needs to be zero tolerance for bad law officers by the public , but more importantly by other good officers.

Unless the Feds decide to get involved, this is what my experience tells me will happen. The kids will file civil suits, the city will drop criminal charges against the kids in exchange for them dropping the civil suits and it will all go away. As to what disciplinary charges against the officers? I can't say because I don't have access to their personnel file nor do I know what is in their statements. The taser and the ASP action will be frowned upon pretty hard though I imagine.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Seems more like the DA bargaining with the victims to drop civil suits in exchange for the DA dropping charges against the victim. And police wonder why a large part of the population distrusts them.

Usually it is the defendants filing the civil suits against the city as bargaining leverage. Win or lose, it still costs money to defend. The suits won't just be filed against the officers, but the supervisors, chief, mayor, and the city as a whole. Especially the city since they have the "deep pockets".
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
