Today I shot my bow for the first time in a few months. For some reason i was shooting to the left. When I drew back and anchored, I noticed my bow looked twisted. I had to torque it the opposite way to hold it straight. Does anyone know why it would twist as I draw back?

That's why I got rid of my Mathews and went with a PSE with the slim grip.......less opportunity to torque the bow while shooting.

This is why I am about to get my bow worked on and down a inch or so. My Draw length is right until I add the release which in a way extends it out about a half of inch making my want to grip my handle more and lock my elbow in place.

Im new to bows but I am leaning to start with shooting pose and technique first then get into sighting and aiming. I need to get a good stance on how and where to hold my bow.

I get what you're saying, but your DL is your DL...regardless of what kind of release you use. In other words, your release has nothing to do with draw length.

I would disagree with this statement ^^^^. You're DL from shooting fingers is different than shooting a release with a D loop. It's sometimes better to go down 1/2" in DL when shooting D loop.

I respectfully disagree with this statement...DL does not change with releases, D-loops, or anything else. Your Anchor Point will change, but not the DL.

There are numerous articles out there about how to determine proper DL. However, I don't want to hijack this thread. Apologies to the OP.

You're anchor point should remain the same, no matter what the stated draw length is, how long the d loop is, or what kind of release you're shooting. Some bows run long on stated draw length, some short. Some d loops are longer than others, etc. So, if you have a properly fitted bow, it is going to anchor in the same place, as say a mathews, that might have a 1/2" shorter stated draw length.

HuntersMark, if your bow has a 28" cam on it and you measure 27.2", it's too long. Have it adjusted to 27".

As far as what Goldhill and FlyinRN are discussing, technically you're both correct. If you change releases or decide to shoot fingers, this does not change the measured draw length on the bow. It changes your anchor. So you lengthen or shorten the draw to get it to where your anchor point is comfortable. When shooting fingers you typically anchor closer to your mouth, thus needing a shorter draw.

Mathews cams are notorious for running long now. I measure out at 26.6". On my Z7, Chill R and Creed I had to set them up with a 26" draw so they would properly fit me.

The bow was rotated so that when i anchored, the string stop was angled toward my arm. I thought it was the stop itself, but when I let off, the stop still lines up with ghe string perfectly. So is there something that could be wrong that would cause a bow to torque as you draw it, or is there something else I am doing wrong?

You need to relax your thumb and fingers. Just let them hang naturally.

Hard to tell from that pic, but might try rotating your hand a little more clockwise so your knuckles are about 45 degrees. Looks too vertical there
